I leave it on whenever I am within a wifi source. Why?

I leave it on and it flips between the two, prioritising my remembered WiFi connections over mobile network.

Would it drain my phone battery faster by leaving wifi on all day?

Not if you use Y5 or a similar app to shut wifi off according to your location so it doesn't waste battery searching for a connection.
I turn it off and you better should, as it drains your battery quickly.

At home I leave mine on all the time. If i'm on the road I turn it off and if I need net access, I turn on the 4G, unless I think there may be wifi access available.
I guess it does drain the battery if you leave it on and it's 'Searching'.
I'll have to give the Y5 a try. I like the idea of it turning itself off.

I leave it on all the time and let Y5 handle the switching. No battery drain.

True, or just shut it off youself, Y5 takes battery life to keep it running all of the time.

If you are connected to some hotspot with Wifi on all the time, the battery drain is minimium.
My phone loses 2% of charge overnight, while sitting in my table, during my sleep. (around 8hrs/night)

As announced above, it's best to turn it off, even if you use a battery saver like Juice Defender. It's just redundant keeping it on when you aren't using it.

No, it doesn't use a significant amount of power. Uses so little you will never be able to tell it's on. Saves the hassle of manual switching without a power penalty.
