Will 1GB Internet be enough for HTC Desire HD?

Hey guys. First off, hi, since I'm new here :D
Now to business.
I'm thinking of purchasing a contract with 1GB of internet allowance with the DHD. Would that be enough, considering I'm 'quite' a heavy user.
I'll be downloading around 3 apps a day maybe, and watching quite a lot of Youtube, along with regular browsing.

Can anyone tell me on average how much Internet they use, and exactly what they do online with their phone.

Thanks alot! :)

PS. What are your opinions on T-Mobile and 3 (in the UK). Which should I go for and why? (Internet speed, signal..)

Unless you plan on watching tv, or downloading loads of videos &/or music via the mobile network, then it should be fine.
For a rough idea, a 1 hour long programme via iplayer or such like will use approx 500MB. That's half your monthly quota gone in an hour!

Best thing to do is get a network usage app off the market. You can set them to log your usage for your own particular billing period.
I use 3g watchdog.

Your network should send you a text when you're close to your data limit anyway.

Once the novelty wears off, i doubt you'll be doing 3 apps a day either.

Don't have an opinion on 3 or Tmobile, never used them, nor do i know anyone who has.

hope that helps

Thanks, that does help.
Just out of curiosity, have you ever gone over your limit (considering you too, have the DHD and a 1gb limit).
Also, when I'm within proximity of a WiFi signal, does the phone automatically switch to it (if I've previously connected to it and the phone knows the WEP key) or would I have to switch manually?

The phone will find the nearest unlocked signal and switch over. i use wifi finder (free on Market) and it can give you a list of all 'known' wifi spots that you have previously connected to. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately o2 reduced my unlimited data down to 500MB last month. Not best pleased as i did watch tv over the network when on nightshift... not anymore.
But no, i've never gone over (probably some ridiculous price per MB, didn't risk it - network data OFF!). Like i mentioned, they sent me a text when i was close to my 500MB limit last month (forgot to stop a movie downloading when i went out; which i began downloading at home over wifi).

Be careful with free wifi hotspots too, as some networks give you limits on those too. Of course your home wifi is down to whatever you've signed up to with your ISP, for most of us these days unlimited.

PS - be careful with what apps you're running too. Go through all you sync setting etc.
I've heard of some apps, such as facebook etc, constantly syncing, which of course will nail your data in no time too.

I find the network and data coverage on 3 to be pretty good but then I am in London so you wouldn't expect it to be bad.

One thing about data on three is you can get an add-on of 2Gig for 5 pounds a month without altering your contract. So you could get the 1Gig plan and then go for the add-on if you need it. I did that with a 500Meg plan. You can cancel the addon at anytime too, for example if you find you use less data once the novelty wears off. (That hasn't happened for me yet).

1GB is only enough if you don't use the Desire to the fullest.

If you're not synching regularly with and using the gmail functionality; browsing the web and downloading files/media; streaming music via apps like Spotify; streaming HQ video via Youtube (or similar) then why on earth waste your money on the DHD?

It's like buying a Hummer to run the kids 2 km to school or an RPG to kill ants at the bottom of your garden.

I know it's your money but still, get a plan that allows you to USE the phone.

Uh, there's this thing called WiFi... most of the day I'm at home/work. I hardly need 1 GB of data for the short commute between those areas where I don't have access to WiFi.

So it all depends on your situation.

That is excellent. Just hope the network's up to the job.
(was the phone bunged in for free for that price too?)

Only problem I have with the network is visiting my parents house.. inside no signal but outside its fine.

Phone was free but was upgrading from Desire to Desire HD.

I've watched a fair ammount of video and Im up to 15Gb of 3G traffic this far. I would guess heavy usage would account for about 1GB traffic a day.

1Gb sounds very limiting to me.

But I guess if you switch down to Edge you'll not hit the limit.

Ok i got my DHD 4th January with a data plan 1Gb and i made a test because this is my first contract.i didn't use wifi just 3g and and after 10 days i left with 568 mb.......i can say that is very big usage og data because i didn't watch youtube or downloaded anything but about 20 apps on market that worth about 20 mb all of them.just weather updates and browsing......than i swiched my wifi for usage couse i probebly couldn't make it for the end of the month with 1gb on DHD.maybe it is the problem with the carrier bit its a lot usage.

I got my DHD free for 27 a month with 3 as well. I just phoned up and that's what they offered. That was only with 500Gig of data though so I pay another 5 for extra data. 3 will normally match any other offer to prevent you leaving. You should just find the price plan that you want (from any provider) then phone 3 and choose the 'thinking of leaving 3' option. After you choose that option you'll be speaking to someone who can offer you better deals. If you tell them about the price plan you want they'll probably offer to match it.

When exactly did you take out this contract?
And did you negotiate to achieve that deal, or was it the first thing they offered you..?
I'm in the queue for that phone line right now :)
