Will 2.3 OS fix this rediculous storage problem?

The Desire hardware has 512MB phone memory.
OS 2.2 need 365MB. So 147MB remains for apps :(
OS 2.3 should be even smaller in order to have more memory for apps.
Do you think that?

Harry

No, what he means is that whenever you move an app to the SD card, there is still some space taken up by the app on the internal memory.
IIRC, Slice it! still took up 8MB even after I moved it to the SD card.

2.3 does not fix this.

Root then Apps2SD+...

This is, and probably always will be, the only real solution for the Desire (unless you get pedantic and start counting the various data2sd etc options but all do require rooting)

There's also the option to get a new phone lol. Rooting is free but voids your warranty. It's a double bladed sword really. But then there's always cache to be deleted and apps you frankly never use. I had angry birds on my phone forever and never played it and I would complain about the device being low on internal memory lol. But ya, if 2.3 does give you more available ROM, it won't be much

No, 2.3 is no different in this respect - quite a few custom ROM users have tried it out already (from his sig it seems Jammy is currently doing so).

Using a custom ROM with A2SD+ gives you more space, since it moves more of the app out of the internal storage (dalvik cache is moved as well, if you want to be technical), as well as allowing you to move apps with widgets. A little remains in internal, but you'd have to stick a lot of apps on for that to be a problem. If it is, then the newer Data2SD trick will I think let you move everything to SD, but that's very new and perhaps still developing.

But yeah, all of this requires root (and is one of the major reasons people root their phones).
