Help Will a hard or factory reset send me back to 2.1 ?

Samsung Captivate - Allready updated to 2.2 -BUT- i have a lot of garbage on the phone i want to get rid of -clean up. If i reset the phone using menu settings - factory reset - will the system go back to 2.1 ? I dont care if i lose all my apps contacts whatever - I just want to start fresh but on 2.2 thats all THANKS

no it will not take you back to 2.1 eclair.
i jsut did mine last week. i did however loose everything i had on the phone. so if there is something you want to save save it to your SD card if you have one and pull it when you restore..

it does make a big difference once you reset. im glad i did it...

A factory reset simply takes your phone back to what it would look like out of the box (with whatever latest version of Android you have installed).

your right. i just pulled mine because i pulled the sims card. i didnt want to have anything in it when it reset itself.

I upgraded to 2.2 recently and found my keyboard input lost the ALL CAPS component. I am going to do a factory reset now - so thanks for all this info.

I know that I am going to lose everything, so I'm backed up, but I am guessing I will need to reinstall ALL APPS right?

Also, is there anyway to keep chat//txt message archives? I use the on board Samsung Captivate txting for domestic, and also use a couple of addons (whatsapp, gtalk, kik) for INTL messaging - I would really like to hold onto those arcihves and bring them back into my phone after reset...

any ideas?
