Help Will Google Voice Work on Non Activated Optimus V

Will google voice work on a Non activated Optimus V? Because I try it and I keep getting a error code 96. And if it wont work then is there any other way to make free calls over wifi? Thanks
 
Groove ip works nice. Thanks. But I am having a problem with the incoming call part now. I have been trying to use ipkall/sipsorcery to forward all my calls to Google voice but everytime I type the number in Google voice it keeps saying that the number has been already used by two other Google members and won't accept the number. Probably bc ipkall recycles their numbers. Is their any other places that offer free numbers that u can use as a forwarding number with Google voice. Thanks
 
It's not free, but Localphone.com has DID's for $0.99 per month with free inbound and free toll free (800, 855, 866, 877, 888) outbound. All other outbound is only $0.006 per mon. (That's 1/2 cent per mon) They provide the sip credentials.
 
You can give out your Gvoice # as your main number, it will ring Groove IP if you set it up that way. You could also port your cell # to Gvoice.
