Will ICS update unroot my phone?

My phone is rooted but it has the stock rom on it and I plan to update it to the official ICS when it's released; would this unroot and/or erase everything on my phone??

If you're rooted then a better option will simply be to flash an ICS based custom ROM. These will almost certainly be available before the official update and will be faster, more lightweight etc
