Help Will MicroSDHC automatically work ?

My 32gb card has an issue and I cannot format it. Because I want to avoid this complication with the HTC Evo which I might purchase. Will MicroSDHC automatically work ? Heres what I mean:
The 2gb card that came with my prevail automatically works. It does not require a format

but my 32gb micro hc card required a format. Will this be the same story for the HTC ?
