Root Will Monster 4.0 work on req0's kernel?

FrEaKk51

Newbie
So I rooted my phone the other day and soon after I began looking for ROM's. I came across Monster 5.3 and began working on installing it. The first task was to install req0's kernel/CWM, but since req took down the original link, I had to hunt down a different one, and when I finally found it, I installed it, rebooted my phone and tried installing Monster 5.3. The installation process came up with no errors, but when I tried booting into it, it would stay frozen at the Samsung logo. I tried all three versions of Monster 5.3 (overclock kernel, stock kernel, and unsuper) but neither worked. Since req's kernel didnt work, I reinstalled the original (which I also had to hunt down), cleared everything and installed Monster 4.0 instead. But I've recently come across a different version of the kernel. This one split the kernel and the CWM so they have to be installed separately. I'm pretty sure that'll work except I don't want to have to install and restore everything again. So my questions are:

A: Will req0's kernel work well with Monster 4.0?

B: Will I have to clear everything in order to install the kernel/CWM, or can I just flash and reboot?

C: Does the kernel even make the phone faster???

a. the kernel depends on the phone. it will work fine for mosnter 4.0.
b. run a nandroid, wipe everything, run it back to stock thru odin if you like aswell (recommended), flash admire-cwm thru odin too, reboot into recovery when done, wipe all, if u get errors formatting, install req0's cwm, wipe everything there (errors should be gone), flash stock++, wipe system & cache (through mounts menu) and dalvik cache (advanced), flash req0's 900 kernel, flash monster4, flash gapps, reboot system option, itll go back to recovery and hit it again if it goes back to recovery, after the 2nd reboot option, pull the battery and let it boot by hitting power. leave it alone for a while.
remember: black screen, white lit buttons = good.

c. im running req0's kernel on lunar-gen rom and it makes this thing fly, had it on monster 5.3 it flies aswell. only downside to monster 5-3 is no video camera.

Thanks for responding, but you lost me at B. Could you elaborate a little bit? I know how to make a nandroid backup (I made one before I installed Monster) but everything else confused me.

Forgive my newbness, I only rooted my phone like 3 days ago, so this is all new to me ._.

ive tried installing monster 4 with req's cwm and kernel and it works, but i had some problem with the wifi it wouldnt stay turned on for more than 5 seconds. i didnt really wnat to reflash so i just restored what i backed up. you can try and see if wifi would work for you, otherwise you'll have to install the other cwm through odin unless they made a zip file that you can flash through cwm.

If you do not want to lose your data you can flash my odin yellow triangle fix. Its just reqs kernel with an edit that will not make any difference unless you have used Odin (you should know) and even then it's a fix. Just search for yellow triangle Odin fix boraichee. You will still need reqs cwm.

But I did use Odin :o

Wait.....what if I run a Nandroid back up, install the kernel/cwm, reboot, and then restore? Would that work?? Or would the restore bring me back to the stock kernel?

B) explanation at the bottom.

as far as wifi not working, you have to flash stock++ before the rom to get data working.

if u run a nandroid and just wipe and restore to the same nandroid, you just wasted your time.

after stocking with odin, flash admire-cwm.zip in odin.
wipe data, system, cache, davlik cache. 3x each. if you get errors with mounting system or data, u should install the 5.0.2.8 cwm package. flash stock++ and run a nandroid after that, flash req0's 900 kernel, flash monster4, flash gapps, reboot system option, itll go back to recovery and hit it again if it goes back to recovery, after the 2nd reboot option, pull the battery and let it boot by hitting power. leave it alone for a while.
