Root will not flash new custom rom

i would like to flash a new rom to my htc desire, but when i select install zip from sdcard and i select the rom i get the following on my screen.

finding rom.zip...
opening rom.zip...
E: can't open /sdcard/rom.zip(bad)

installation aborted.

i have a htc desire, rooted with revolutionary.
android 2.3.3 stock

(bad)

This means the zip is corrupt. Re-download it.

did that multipule times, didn't work.

i flashed a new hboot and tried to flash a stock rom from froyo.
while flashing the stock rom it gave a 131 error klant-id after that i checked my hboot and it when back to s-on and not rooted. would it help if i would s-off and root again, and then try to flash an custom rom again would that work?

A stock ROM would not return you to S-ON,

What Hboot did you flash?

What was the original ROM you flashed?

What is the stock ROM you flashed?

Yes, please tell us exactly what you did and how you did it. It may be tedious, but it avoids misunderstandings and so makes it quicker to find a solution.

I assume that means customer id error? I say assume as its not in English. Please translate

Does it even boot? Customer id error means its not your rom. Either your phone or the rom is branded.

Ok what is your ultimate goal here?

i would like to flash a custom rom. tried the following now.
i've got my phone rooted and s-off by revolutionary.
tried to flash a custom rom as following:

ROM Flashing

  1. Obtain a ROM of your choice, and note the location on your computer.
  2. reboot your device into fastboot mode via one of the following options.
    1. adb reboot bootloader (requires USB debugging to be turned on).
    2. power off the device then back on with 'vol up' + power button.
  3. Wipe your device.
    1. fastboot -w
  4. Update your ROM.
    1. fastboot update </path/to/your/RomFile.zip>
  5. Your phone will update and automatically reboot into the new ROM.
with the following rom:
Main Rom 1.7.1.1 (i) – Classic Edition (Intelligent Data2SD)

ROM: StarBurst Classic (1170)

Flashing a ROM that way seems a pain, install a custom recovery first and flash from there.

Also means you can nandroid backup for if it fubars

i've got a amon Ra 2.0.1 recovery installed, also rooted and s-off by revolutionary guide. but i cann't flash a custom rom after that.

Also, do you have an ext4 partition on your card? I ask because you've said nothing about that so far.

i made an ext4 partition of 2gb, this sould by more than sufficient.

I can't see what the problem is then. Go into recovery and do a nandroid backup. If it does this correctly , then do a full wipe and install zip from sd card , ensuring your rom download is good (check the md5 sum), then place on root of card. Also it might be worth just trying to flash dGb first as this doesn't need a partitioned card, just to see if you can flash anything successfully.

I was thinking along the same lines of shauny, install a small rom that doesn't require an SD partition.
Just curious though, how did you make the partition?

with gparted as given in most post.
btw would one of these roms be fine to start with?

CyanogenMod Downloads

i would like to install the 7.0.3 version and than flash the data2sd

Data2SDInstallerX1.zip

the data2sd after flashing the rom ofcourse (if that works)

would this be allright then to give a shot?

The choice is ultimately yours, but i would be inclined to try and flash something more simple. Data to sd is overrated to be honest. It slows the phone down, and if your card becomes corrupted, you've lost everything.

then what would you reccomend? shauny

i would like to get more internal storage. and a good and stable rom.

do you have any you say is good?

any other person than shauny having any suggestions?
also where i can get the downloads for this suggestion of your shauny would be great.
thanks in advance

i already have, dGB or redux, both very stable, although they are not sense based. I'm just trying to establish whether you can flash any rom???????
