Root Will rooted phone work in China?

Is there any reason that a phone that is rooted, would not work in China? A friend of mine at work has a brother that is stationed in China. He was wanting to buy a phone, have it rooted and take it back with him. He was wondering from a SIM card standpoint, etc., weather it would be compatible?

From my brief research, there *is* CDMA in some major Chinese cities, but note that you WILL be roaming, so you will be charged a bunch for any data/calls you make. It'd be cheaper to buy a prepaid phone in China, if possible.

Rooting the phone makes no difference.

Most Verizon phones, unless it is a 'Global' phone do not have SIM cards and do not work in GSM networks, which is what the majority of the rest of the world has. Verizon (and Sprint as well) run on CDMA networks, where the SIM card is, in a simple way, embedded into the phone.

If there's a carrier in China that he can sign a contract to, he should be able to activate the Incredible with them, but he would have to pay the ETF with Verizon.

From a SIM card standpoint...no. For starters, it doesn't HAVE a SIM card. If you're planning on buying a cellphone to take back, get a GSM phone. Unless you're 100% confident there is a Chinese Carrier with Good coverage on the CDMA band you need (800 MHz and 1900MHz I believe), and they have reasonable roaming rates, you'll have better luck with a GSM.
