will rooting help with sim card

I purchased a g slate from a friend to use with tmobile. I had a line that was not being used with unlimited data. The sim card when first placed in the g slate worked fine on the 4g network. About 2 hours later i started getting redirected to a tmobile page. When i called customer support they told me that i needed to cancle the line that i am trying to use in the tablet and get a line setup just for the tablet. I am new to this so bash me for it if you like but will rooting the g slate and/or unlocking help my situation?

Looking at T-Mobiles data policies: http://androidforums.com/t-mobile/455544-t-mobiles-official-tethering-policy.html

It seems they'll only allow you to use that plan/SIM Card in a phone so even if rooted, you wouldn't be able to use that SIM in the tab.

Yes strange. I am currenty using the tablet by connecting to my mobile phone via wifi hotspot. However the line i am wanting to use wont let me do that either. I have a total of 5 lines and all but 1 work with wifi hotspot. And of course its the one that i want to use.

Went to the store ad had them set up a data and text plan. They claimed i could text on the g slate and when i asked where the text app was they looked stunned that it wasnt there. Anyone know of a good solution? I would love a native text app like on the dell streak but will settle for a decnt app or workaround.
