I want to root my Galaxy Ace but I'm worried, would that prevent/affect in any way the possibility of official future firmware updates such as Gingerbread? Has anyone faced a problem with update after rooting their phones? What are the downsides of rooting other than the risk of bricking your phone. Thanks in advance!

You will have to unroot the phone using SOC, so that you can upgrade..
I upgraded my phone without unrooting and it worked
