Root Will the Spec get 4.1?

Just played with a buddy's galaxy nexus which this morning he flashed Jelly Bean and its smooth as butter, super jealous. We are still running gingerbread and its somewhat discouraging to think that Ice Cream Sandwich is still ways away for us and will be obsolete. Do you think we will get 4.0 or will Verizon and LG skip that OTA and go straight for 4.1?

I'm sure it won't skip straight to jb. however you bring up a good question though. I will email LG and big red to inquire even though I'm sure their response will be something to the effect of "thank you for your inquiry but we don't have that information at this moment" lol

LG released a statement about a month ago that all their 2012 phones that have sufficient hardware will get Jelly Bean. They didn't mention phones by name but just that those that can handle it. I would think that includes the spectrum. I'm sure if we do it wont be for at least 4-6 months from now.

I hope, but won't hold my breath.

I LOOOOVVEEEE the resizing of widgets in 4.1... that was the main selling point for ADW, but it would be awesome to have it available in stock.

Also the siri esque voice software on jelly bean is amazing and blows siri away with speed, I can't wait and am crossing my fingers.

Did you friend flash that with an OTA update, or a custom ROM - I was not aware that GNexus had JellyBean release?

Considering the paper specs blow away the GNEX I hope so.

Well I got my response from Big Red inquiring about Jelly Bean, and let me tell you all that I'm shocked by their response..lol ...I cut and pasted their response and changed my info to an "x" :)

Hi Andy,

I hope this email finds your summer going great in Minnesota. I know that receiving a new software update for your phone can be quite exciting. I just got an Android update to Ice Cream Sandwich on my RAZR. My name is Cindy and I am happy to assist you today.

I have reviewed the information I have for the LG Spectrum and I don't see any announcements from LG at this time. I recommend checking out LG's website at LG Cell Phones: Discover Cell Phones Designed to Exceed Imagination | LG USA or call them at 800-793-8896. The manufacturer pushes out their updates directly to their devices so they would have the most up-to-date information.

Andy, I trust this information has provided you with the information you need to find out about any LG updates for your Spectrum. Thank you for your time and for being a valued Verizon Wireless customer. Please enjoy the day!

Sincerely,
Cindy

Message Body: I was wondering about a software update for the LG spectrum. can you provide me
any info about it receiving the jelly bean update? In particular whether theres any
talk or plans of it? Im not asking for a time frame or anything rather whether it is
likely to receive one. thanks

Yea my wife just got her ics update on her razr an hour ago. I wonder if lg will have 4.0 available through the restore tool before vz pushes it?

I contacted LG via email as well, but have yet to hear any response from them. I would hope it'd be an OTA for simplicity's sake lol.

Ugh I'm not surprised by the response that Cindy gave you. I've got a feeling we are still ways away from ics and probably never receiving jelly bean

That strikes me as disingenuous. Why, if LG pushes out updates directly, are they delayed by testing of things like verizon specific bloatware? Are they required by verizon to carry it, or maybe forced to wait while verizon tests their bloatware?

Does lg push the updates or are the coming from vz? In any event, there is most likely an agreement with vz that requires they install certain apps into their version of android.

Well they've got the lu6200, vs920 and p930 all very similar phones waiting on the update. Since they are all so close I'm thinking they might release about the same time. I almost ended up with the vs910 revo but I held off.

Just finshed a live chat w/LG inquiring about ICS and was told he has "no" info in regards to ICS coming to the Spec and recommended I contact my provider. He went on to explain that LG simply designs/builds the hardware and the software is handled by the provider.

Which I *might* believe, except LG offers the restore tool AND they are the ones that designed and themed the version of Android. I'm calling bullshit on this rep. Verizon doesn't dev Android, the manufacturers do and some send it to VZ to push to phones.

Totally agree it's a shame we are still eating gingerbread, dual core hd display and plenty of ram..... Cmon verizon

Yea I really think all LG did was take the os for the Nitro and port it for our phone, which would explain why why we have so many issues with reboots. This should have been released with ICS, but for whatever reason, they decided not to do so.

Not getting in to a whole discussion about ICS and JB in this thread also, but wanted to say that I believe LG makes the update, gets the OS working on the device, then sends it to Verizon for modification, after VZ completes their bloat, they send it back to LG and both test the build, share any updates, then both make it available, VZ pushes OTA and LG makes it available via the software update tool.
