Help Will the T-Mobile version work on AT&T?

bruder

Newbie
It looks like the GSM developer edition and the T-Mobile edition are the same phone except that the developer edition has an unlocked boot loader. Since the T-Mobile version comes SIM unlocked can it work with LTE/HSPA on AT&T's network (specifically Straight Talk AT&T)? If it's running on the AT&T Network will T-Mobile update the phone when new software is available? Thank you.

So the developer edition and the T-Mobile edition are identical, except that the developer edition gets updates directly from Motorola and the T-Mobile edition is updated via T-Mobile. If I get the T-Mobile version and run it on another network can I keep it up to date without rooting? Thanks.

The tmobile edition tends to get updates from Moto AFAIK. (It was the first to get the first camera update, and second to get KitKat).

T-mobile doesnt sell the t-mobile edition, you can only buy it from Moto.

What network are you planning to run the TMO edition on? For all intents and purposes it is roughly the same as the GSM dev edition except for TMO, you can use Motomaker.

The only difference is the colors :)

The ATT version supports LTE in band 7 (1700) while the dev edition uses it as a HSPA+ band

All variants support four 2G GSM bands 850/900/1800/1900.

XT1053 T-Mobile US, Developer Edition

(GSM) Quad
(UTMS) 850/900/1700/1900/2100
(LTE) 2/4/17
compatible with AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US

XT1058 AT&T Mobility, Rogers,...

(GSM) Quad
(UTMS) 850/900/1900/2100
(LTE) 2/4/5/7/17
compatible with AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US

LTE bands in the US go something like this:

LTE Band #/ Spectrum block / Carrier

2 (850 MHz) TMO
4 (1700/2100 MHz AWS) TMO, ATT, VZW
5 (850 MHz) ATT
17(700 MHz B) ATT
17(700 MHz C) VZW

UTMS/HSPA+ bands in the US go something like this:

ATT
850, 1900

TMO
850, 1700, 1900

VZW

Thanks for the useful info. From reading other forums and blogs in sounds like AT&T doesn't use LTE band 5 in the US. I'll be using the T-Mobile or DE on Straight Talk. Unfortunately its hard to find a ST AT&T nano SIM. I know I can cut a micro, but can I use a GoPhone nano Sim on StraightTalk?
