Will there be an HTC or Motorolla phone for AT&T?

Before anyone says anything, I'm not here to talk trash about the Captivate. The Captivate was / is my first phone that led me into the android gateway.

I love the Captivate, but I was just wondering if there's any info on AT&T getting an android phone from HTC or Motorolla is the near future? (excluding the HTC aria).

I'm still a Captivate owner, but I would like to know my options if I do ever decide to return it to AT&T for a full refund. I'm currently on my 3rd Captivate because the first one had random shut downs, 2nd one had a dark yellow tint, and this one is perfect besides the fact that the 3 button download/recovery does not work.

If anyone has any insight on upcoming phones, please chime in. No flame wars please, thanks.

Keep an eye out the next few months. I think ATT is supposed to have like 6 legit phones coming out before Christmas. I think a few of them might be Windows Phone 7 though.

I'd really be happy to see AT&T get the upcoming HTC Desire HD.

That's the next Android phone on my list.

As a long time AT&T customer, who's enjoyed good service, I have no intention of going to another carrier. Plus with the impending Verizon iPhone, the loss of a substantial number of "switchers" to Verizon will only be a benefit to those who remain with At&T.

I dont think the HTC Desire HD will be coming to AT&T. I heard that it was like the EVO but for the rest of the world, non US. Also read that although it will be a GSM phone, the frequency band used for AT&T will be different. It'll work for voice, but for data, it will be on edge.

I'm posting this via smartphone, so I don't have the link handy, but I just got the DesireHD specs. It runs on the same GSM spectrum as the Captivate, so it will work perfectly on the AT&T network.

That said the reason I rather doubt seeing it offered by AT&T is their less than enthusiastic view of Android. A shame really, as the DesireHD is widely respected and predicted to be one if the finest Android models thus far.

Only for voice, the Desire HD does not have any US 3G bands, so you would be stuck on EDGE data speeds: HTC Desire HD Passes Through FCC, No U.S. 3G in Sight | AndroidGuys

When I picked up my Captivate in July, the rep told me that AT&T would be getting a few more Android phones in the fall of this year. One or two of them is bound to be HTC or Motorola.

This is conflicting data with what HTC has on their site.

According to the specs it runs on the same frequencies as AT&T 3g.

Network 4

Europe:
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Asia Pacific:

No. HSPA/WCDMA=3G

Both of them are 900/2100 which is European/Asian 3G.

Afraid we are going to have to wait for an Australian or Canadian version. Or if we are really lucky, AT&T version.

I love this phone as well. New generation Qualcomm 1GHz processor (comparable to Hummingbird), and 750MB of RAM. Thing is a beast.

I was a fairly happy with ATT's network. But I switched to Verizon because of the better phone choices they have. And for me a side benefit is I am in 3G a LOT more on verizon than i was with ATT. ATT may have good coverage, but for me not much of it was 3G. So, Im happy all the way around that I switched. If you like Android; Verizon offers much better choices.

i work for ATnT and we will be getting a couple new phones befor christmas but as of now the only one i know of is a motorola, and to simply put it, its the backflip but instead of being rectangular its square

just realized someone else has posted bout the phone, its called the flipout...but sony has released a statement saying that it has a couple big suprises to roll out befor christmas or by the end of january
