Will TMO Unlock For Use Abroad?

Thinking of moving from Sprint to T-Mobile, in part because Spring no longer has an acceptable world phone for me. T-Mobile, since they're GSM, would make that a non-problem. Only question is: Will T-Mobile unlock a phone (such as the S II) so I can put a local pre-paid SIM in it while in Europe? Switching carriers to get a "European-compatible" phone won't do me any good if they won't.

Girl behind the counter at a TMO reseller was ambivalent. I finally asked "Well, will they or won't they?" She pretty much said "It depends on who you get."

Anybody know what T-Mobile's policy is?

Thanks,
Jim

T-Mobile has a very liberal attitude about unlocking phones. Unless you bought the phone recently on-contract, they will unlock it.

Thanks!

That's good news and bad. Here's the rub: I'm considering buying a subsidized phone on contract. I don't expect to be going to Europe, soon, but who knows?

From what I understand, they will unlock after you have been with them 30 days.
