Root will UOT theme still fit using 60mb system on dGb rom?

just wondering if this will fit ok, ive got about 796kb free on system but ive cooked a nice theme but just wondering if anyone else has flashed one yet using the 60mb system size?

How much bigger are the framework-res.apk and the systemUI.apk than the ones they'll replace?

the ones i used to create the kitchen file are about 3mb and the file i created is 5mb but ive also changed the font, status bar and notification widgets.

Literally generate them and take down their exact size. They are based on the existing files so how big something used to be will not help. Add up the size of the existing files and then add up the new files. If the sum of the new files is smaller than the sum of the old files+free space, it will fit. Basic maths really ;)

Cheers Dan, I've added them all up an its not gonna fit, so I'm just gonna cook a new battery icon and notification icons and see how that goes, failing that ill change my mtd to 62-63 and try that, I want to change the font aswell, so may end up doing just that because font changer won't work coz of lack of space in system.

hi ducky - howd it go? im planning to UOT mine - but im using cm7 hboot so have more space

cheers
dan

Mine is lightly UOTed - change carrier name colour, brighten notifications and slightly increase transparancy of the notification pull-down background, nothing else - and still fits in 60MB. It's a matter of how much you change or add really. But I'm actually using a 70MB hboot, which I cooked-up to allow me to run Redux2 (after a little editing), so space isn't an issue for me.

With CM7 hboot you really don't need to worry - you can fit the whole ROM in there twice with space to spare :D

I haven't had chance to do it yet, but the one I cooked was to big anyway, I wanted to change the battery icon and all other notification icons as well as change the font, i may just increase my custom mtd to about 63 so I shouldn't have any problems themeing then,

hi - right yes - im planning to do similar - i want the color to be more stable - i found that uot sorted this issue when i was running cm7, so hope that it will work for dGB too

cheers

Yes uot breaks the connection status so its always the colour of your theme rather than informative.

So its not an issue you are fixing. It's a functionality you are
Breaking as you prefer colours

exactly :D i like my themes

Quick question for you Dan. Did you install via custom MTD or hboot?

Also, SURoot, if you pick this up, which way would you recommend? It seems to me that the MTD is a more tailored way for your ROM.

I'm confident with either method - although flashing the custom hboot would obviously be the easier option. What would be the ramification of me messing this up? My understanding of a bad hboot can quite easily render your phone into a nice little brick. Is this worse case scenario? I.e. can you have a bad hboot flash and get recover?

Many thanks all =)

Edit:

Just dipped into the AlphaRev to read more about the partition tables and found this nugget of info:

Is there any risk involved?

Yes, there is. Flashing HBOOT will flash a critical part of your phone, if that gets corrupted, your phone WILL be bricked.
We do not accept any responsibility for bricked phones, even though we've attempted to make the actual flashing method as safe as possible.
If your phone no longer turns on anymore, please return to HTC for warranty purposes.
Should you still run this hack/program, you then hereby accept full responsibility.

Hmm - I may want to make sure I am 100% as opposed to 95%.

hi jon.
do you mean the cm7 theme? I flashed that via recovery as normal.
I'm using cm7 hboot if that is what you meant. used revolutionary
to sort that.

I'm not too sure of the process of applying theme to dGB
though as it uses separate file :-\

cheers

Dgb uses frameworks and systemUI like every other Rom. Cm7 has t-mobile theme chooser though

You must check md5 matches on hboots. If they do, its not corrupt.

Then you just need to be careful not to drop power / connection through the flash. Follow these simple rules and you can't go wrong

Sorry Dan, I was referring to flashing the dGB rom. Perhaps I should have mentioned that before :P.

hi jon
:-D ah right I see :-) I'm using the cm7 hboot with dGB. I know you can use a smaller
one but I'm fine with the space this gives me.
I just flashed dGB in recovery as normal.

Dan. yes I'm ok with the 2 normal files but wasn't sure if after Modding, that these
need to be flashed or just copied back to same system dir ?

cheers
