Will Verizon LTE support simultaneous voice and data sessions?

Trick question. Can it? yes it can. Well it? that depends on the phone. LTE done properly will be able to make a voip with out any problems. If they choose to make the LTE and cmda the same radio, then no. LTE requires the removal of all other bandwidth, voice, texting, 3g, in order to give you those promised speeds, unlike wimax. So in the future it will just be voip that will use data. Welcome to the future.

Edit
What the link is saying is not cmda voice and LTE data, but just LTE data with voip.

Yes, my understanding (possibly flawed) was that we would just be using LTE, which would mean that we would only need the One connection, and could use it for anything while connected.

Eventually, yes as was correctly stated regarding voip service. With a dual radio it should be possible but it depends on your coverage footprint.

Something I wanted to add before people get all giddy on LTE-Only phones(you people do realize AMPS just recently got phased out[2008], right?), is it's going to take a long time before LTE reaches any kind of saturation that could possibly sustain LTE-Only phones, and furthermore from what I've seen, VZW's current implementation of LTE does not include a voip solution, and i'm not entirely sure of the logistics of converting CDMA users to LTE only either.

that and all other cdma/3g phones will become useless. That is right guys, LTE requires all the bandwidth, so none of you current phones will work with Verizon service once they start to release the LTE-a.

ouch.

what about on different frequencies?

what about on different frequencies?

Now, you are poking the bear. As far as the plan goes, there are no frequencies. Just like there are no rivers in North America. The rumor is there might be rivers, but we will see what happens when we find one. To be honest that is about 3 to 5 years out but that is all up to Verizon we only design, build, and test them as they tell us to.

So this would be the same truth for GSM? since At&t plans on rolling out LTE soon.
And what about the 900/1800mhz(CDMA) working with 700mhz(LTE), are you saying they can't be used at the same time, and you have to choose one or the other?

I wish I could find the article, but verizon said at first only data will be over LTE and voice will stay on the CDMA network. They didn't say when, but my guess is until the get enough penetration of LTE to finally kill CDMA, which can't come soon enough.

How the network is used I can not say. I do not run the network. It is designed to hand you from towervto towering what ever fhz is open, but the is kind of a jokebright now with most wireless transmittence. Gsm will have to go to.

LTE is a good tech, but you will not like the cost. Just understand that it will be per gb. For the cost will start at current prices an only increase, and you will be forced to take it. If 3g is fine for you tough.

How do you know that? Sounds like pure speculation to me.
You know you are right! The one thing that Verizon is known for is low prices, including extras for free, and not nickel and diming you to death. So I am sure whne LTE comes out they will give you a free upgrade and 1 year free service. Wow the grass is greener over here but there is somthing in the water.

Per speculation, ok. The will add on LTE to your normal plan for 30 dollars more a month, for the first 5 gb. After that 5 dollars per gb. You will not able to tether. OR. You can get a LTE only phone for 60 dollars a month, 10 gb limit. Why because they do not have the bandwidth to give it away. Disclaimer, just speculation.

Ok, I'll play along. I don't think they will charge anything extra for 4G beyond the $30. data plan and if they do it will only be $5-10/month. Data will remain unlimited for the near future (1-2 years). Tethering won't be available in the beginning but after 6-12 months they'll offer it for $30/month with a 5GB cap.

Only a few more weeks/months and we'll find out who is closer to reality.

Lmao... vzws lte tax will make sprints wimax tax look like a refund.

I won! Thanks for the hyperbole RiverOfIce. It was rather entertaining.

In River's defense, Verizon's CFO said earlier this year (january, iirc) that they were going to go to tiered data pricing later this year.

The LG Revolution is going to be the first phone to offer VoLTE. That mean right now phone conversations happen on 3g and data happens on 4g. No release date on the Revolution but can say it will be one of the last 4g phones to come out because of VoLTE

Which I addressed in my prediction so if tiered pricing comes this summer I would just be 9 months off. According to rumors and statements by VZW executives tiered pricing was supposed to happen last summer and then again in October. It still may not happen this summer either, but I do agree that it will happen eventually. In addition, we have no idea what the pricing and tiers will be at the moment.

I think it's going to come sooner, and here's why.

1) The 29.99 Unlimited Data Plan was listed as a limited time-promo for iPhone 4 customers.

2) Thunderbolt customers get a free Mobile Hotspot feature until May 15th. That date seems awfully arbitrary to me.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

You may be on to something. ;)
