Will Verizon LTE support simultaneous voice and data sessions?

The LG Revolution is going to be the first phone to offer VoLTE. That mean right now phone conversations happen on 3g and data happens on 4g. No release date on the Revolution but can say it will be one of the last 4g phones to come out because of VoLTE

No phone conversations happen on 3G in CDMA systems. They all happen over 1X-RTT. 3G (EV-DO) is data only.

And I don't think Verizon is going to tiered data unless they have another trick up their sleeve to compete with AT&T.

The LG Revolution is going to be the FIRST phone to do voice and date on 4g. Now if you do not have a 4g phone or a volte phone it will be all on 4g. Now who knows when the LG Revolution will come out since verizon had so many problems with the thunderbolt. It could be the next phone or could come out around Christmas time. Who knows.

The Thunderbolt does support simultaneous radio and data. There are two chipsets; one for data and one for voice. But this will only work if data is connected to 4G, or wifi.

Where did you hear or know of that. I had no idea that it had anything of the sort. I only heard of the LG Revolution was going to be the first phone to make call over 4G and they were going to call it VoLTE. That is news to me

I didnt hear it. I do it.

you are correct. the lg revolution will make calls over lte. The TB makes calls over cdma and data over lte so you can do both without conflict.

edit: can make calls and surf over 3g. tested and working

I think that what the thread was all about. Was if it was possible or when something would happen where we could do both lte talk and data. Just sayin.

I know that. I was just saying that CDMA systems don't handle voice calls over 3G. With the Thunderbolt, voice is handled by 1X while data is handled by LTE. Two completely different standards (1X is CDMA while LTE is GSM based). Sprint can do this too since WiMax isn't really a cell technology, but rather a form of long-range outdoors Wi-Fi. I'm curious if it can do this over 3G as well.

The thunderbolt CAN do voice and data over 3G. You don't have to be in a 4g area. They already have confirmed this. You can also read the links I posted above.

You may be on to something. ;)

Which I addressed in my prediction so if tiered pricing comes this summer I would just be 9 months off. According to rumors and statements by VZW executives tiered pricing was supposed to happen last summer and then again in October. It still may not happen this summer either, but I do agree that it will happen eventually. In addition, we have no idea what the pricing and tiers will be at the moment.

I think it's going to come sooner, and here's why.

1) The 29.99 Unlimited Data Plan was listed as a limited time-promo for iPhone 4 customers.

2) Thunderbolt customers get a free Mobile Hotspot feature until May 15th. That date seems awfully arbitrary to me.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

It's May 17th and we still have unlimited data.

I'm assuming that it's me your asking.

I honestly don't know if I have it, but I don't care because I have no use for it. What difference does it make anyway? Data is still unlimited.

Well, the statement was that Thunderbolt owners would have FREE HOTSPOT til the 15th, everyone knows that your data plan is free unlimited. That won't change until you get a new contract. VZW sees tethering as a separate service (the whole reason they charge separately for it.)

A better question might be is that a contract thing or is it just a special they were running on data (which sets a crappy precedent.) So, do Thunderbolt users who signed up before the 15th still have it?

I upgraded 6 days ago, hotspot hasn't been added to my bill since the 15th and I still see the 29.99 unlimited data plan, question is will it be there when my billing cycle ends on the 28th....

Sailingmaster was speculating that VZW would stop offering unlimited data and introduce tiered plans on May 15th.

Lol, well if you do it again Sailingmaster... :-) I'll stop being silly and go back to worrying what my 4g will be like if my Xoom gets its upgrade.

Thats refreshing. For the last 18 months everyone else has been worrying about the rumored tiered data plans.

Some talking head from VZW comes out saying that every quarter for the past year. Now they are hinting at family data plans. As long as my LTE is worth what they're asking for it, w/e. If not, I'll just get the cheapest 4g carrier out there.
