I'm debating... I have no issues with 2.1 - I've never used anything prior, so I'm sort of spoiled I guess :D there's some things about Sense that are cool (at least the version that is shown on the Desire)... but i don't want to be messing around with my phone all the time...

This is true. Except I wouldn't mind having an FM radio, and I prefer the Sense Calender and most of the Sense widgets.
 
the advantage of the Nexus One - it will ALWAYS get updates first, as well as apps and stuff (like Goggles for example) - it's Google's own flagship, and in some ways test bed. I'll take that over a pretty skin :D

plus i'm glad my Nexus hasn't been POLLUTED by some carrier's add-ons...

if HTC was smart, they'd have Sense as a purchasable app in the Market... surely they could find a way to make it easily installable.... i bet they could sell a "Sense" pack on the Market easily for like $50 or maybe even more... people would buy it... for the stability and ease... many wouldn't want to or don't have the know-how to install the XDA hacked ROMs...
 
that could potentially steal business from themselves. plus iylt would need to be optimized for each individual phone.

But then HTC would be selling their USP reason of buying one of their phones! HTC are phone manufacturers not software developers, would you ever think Microsoft would offer their op system to Sony so the PS3 looked and worked like the 360? No so why would HTC?

Right. I'm going to have to step away from this thread, I'm getting mighty tempted. May have to get my brother to put Sense on his unlocked phone and see what it's like.

I think the problem with that idea is that SENSE on HTC phones are so integrated into the OS itself that a simple add-on/skin will not really replicate the experience on the Nexus One as it would do on a HTC phone if it is at all possible. Isn't that why it's taking HTC so long to bring out 2.1 SENSE for the Hero?
 
you're probably right... i don't have experience with Sense, just my Nexus.... but looking like the guys at XDA will have it dialed in soon - already have a prelim running as shown above...
 
Wow, that was quick. The new Sense UI ported to the Nexus one. Price indications for the Desire are pointing to the fact that the price difference between the Nexus One and Desire is not significant. Right now I really don't see anything the Desire has over the Nexus one. The only reason I see for getting the Desire is if you think it looks better. Either way, they both seem like great phones!
 
personally I prefer the vanilla Android, but I also prefer the optical trackball. Anyway, I'm already a very happy Nexus One owner, and I wouldn't change it
 
Word of caution - I installed HTC keyboard that is posted in another thread in this forum, and personally didn't like it. But after uninstalling, things got wonky with my Nexus. Minor, but still some issues. ATK - the fonts got all small. BatteryLife - the coloured separation bars got all messed up.

I did a hard reset to fix. Luckily, I have online backup setup with my Gmail account. I personally won't be installing anything HTC anymore.

Just FYI - not to tell people to not do it, but I had weird things happen from just installing the HTC keyboard. Although minor, I can only imagine what kind of headaches I'd get with installing Sense. No thanks. No until my Nexus becomes a backup phone. ;)
