Will you be using Android Pay or Samsung Pay?

I'd rather a thief stole my credit card than my phone. One call to the bank and my card is cancelled and any transactions made fraudulently are cancelled instantly.
.

Well put, at least with the lost CC card, one call to the bank and it is fixed although the pain of waiting for a replacement takes a while.

With the phone, lots of personal info on it that I don't want in other hands.
just returned from a 4 week motorcycle vacation around the USA east coast, back in the hinter grasslands near Tulsa, OK now.

I did have my phone setup with a 6 digit pincode in case I lost it on the trip.... it would format before someone could use it.

I just opened it up again now that I am home..... somehow, wondering if that was smart??? :(
We get complacent at home, and want things to be FAST so why wait to enter a 6 digit pincode, right?

As a long-time Wallet user, I'm probably not going to use Android Pay for 2 reasons:
  1. Support: My bank does not support Android Pay. Maybe they will, probably won't. Google is grandfathering cards that are already in Wallet to work in Android Pay(but using the same method as Wallet). Once that card expires, no more Android Pay.
  2. Root: Android Pay does not work on rooted devices(and neither does Samsung Pay).

FYI, Android Pay does work on rooted phones. You first need to unroot, then go through the Android Pay setup, and then reroot. Once this is done, you can still add cards and use Android Pay just fine, with a rooted phone. I know, it works on mine.

Change is good, why all the disdain??...
Old & new have their Pros & Cons.
I can see certain occasions where less is more & who here wants to leave their house w/o their phone?
I'd luv to leave my wallet behind. The DMV (& work ID's) need to get on-board w/this technology.Once this happens,I can see going sans wallet, tuck some emergency $ in my shoe (a la Get Smart :D) & not look back. :thumbsupdroid:

I agree with the ability to call and cancel a card but as far as my cards go I'm protected against theft. I had two issues in the past when somehow my card information was stolen and they charged 1500 the first time and over 5000 the second time and I was covered both times.

It isn't just theft of money. It's also ID, Social Security Number and Drivers' License.

That is what hackers got when they broke into Experian's TMO server. No credit cards, just info for credit cards. Experian is giving 2 years free, and TMO has another free 2 yr from Transunion.

Anyone saying "I'd rather have a thief steal my credit card than phone" is missing the point I made (which is fine, but if you want to "get it" here goes). The assumption I'm making is you already have both your phone and wallet with you today when shopping. If a mugger holds you up, he gets both. When phone payment becomes prevalent they will only get your phone. Phone payments are secure in the aspect that someone who steals your phone can't make payments just because they have your phone.

In other words you stand to lose the same or less when phone payment is prevalent when being mugged. Phone payment options will not make it more likely a mugger takes your phone, they're going to take it anyway today and sell it on ebay.

Edit: Bring on phone payment! Weeee! Speaking of which, I have never today seen a point of sale device that accepts phone payment. Where are people paying with their phones today?

I believe Samsung Pay will work with conventional POS systems. From what I've read Samsung Pay will work with a CC terminal that requires a swipe but will not work with CC readers that require CC be inserted. I currently use Android Pay and so far it works great. Only thing I don't like is there is no way to delete old purchase history from phone. What do we do when there are hundreds of past transactions and no way to remove them?

At the moment, from where I am, Android Pay works quite well, and I haven't had issues using it. It is secure, even if a thief gets my phone or someone "accidentally" picks it up and tries to use it, it would not be compromised. I'm not sure if there has been any change with the Marshmallow update, but transaction history is a pain. I guess I'm nitpicking because I'm not really going to dig through my history regularly, but what if I needed to? That would've been a hassle.

I have seen one, and only one terminal with the 'Tap to Pay' and when I inquired, was told it only works with the Apple systems.

Today, for the very 1st time in my life, was in Home Depot and they have a brand new Debit/Credit card terminal. I tried to run my debit card thru the slide.... it barked, said I must "insert card with chip up" ??? huh? I did not even know the card had a chip in it.

sure enough, when that card was pushed inside the machine, it said "do NOT remove card until purchase completed". I still have to use my pin-code...

even here, in the grasslands, technology is moving in on us. Nearly everywhere else around here, even though it is a debit card, I have to sign a register slip....

For online purchases, PayPal for this ole boy is the single best "Transaction Tracking System" I have found.
I can go back and see who, what, when, how shipped... the whole invoice is there.

With my bank or Credit Union, they save the first 13 characters and strip off all the rest.... what I see is usually "Instant Wire Transfer".... oh jeez, who the hell is that from?

That habit of the banks has pushed me to using PayPal almost every where now. I have it linked direct to the credit union so it is the same as using my plastic card.

PayPal here, i have never used Android pay or Samsung pay. Not many stores here have support for it yet...
I either use my PayPal business debit or good old cash. I feel secure using PayPal and have never had an issue.

yeah, that funny stuff that takes up a lot of wallet space, and I am trying hard to push it thru the internet, but can't seem to "get it there" ;)

I haven't heard of this thing called cache payment. It sounds like it's really fast to access :) I'm also glad to hear it's green. I like tech solutions that are environment friendly #softwaredeveloperjokes

Seriously though phone payment systems will be so money #intentionalpuns

Well, yeah, money is the reason they're pushing this whole scheme. Another layer of institutions wants to stick their foot in the door and collect a fee on every transaction. (Which will then get passed along to the consumers). Genius, really. Well, evil genius. Free money for the fat cats, and we the sheeple get to feel fancy waving our phones around LOL.
