Will you guys jump ship to the G2??

You are quite correct.

In hindsight I should have remembered the G2 is different to our variant as I have tried (and failed) to get the 7 screen launcher running on both FRF91 and FRG83.
 
my friend got his delivered today... it is a nice piece of hardware but truthfully it does nothing that my nexus cant do...no hotspot on his means i will still take my nexus any day
 
I think if the G2 and Nexus One came out at the same time, I would have gotten the G2 over it as I was coming from a G1.

The G1 keyboard cannot be replaced. I could write a 10 page paper without ever looking up, driving a car with a bagel and coffee in the morning.

That's the only thing I missed (and still do!) when I got my Nexus.

However, I can't see myself adding back the weight of a keyboard phone (at the same time, I don't like the feel of the Vibrant either. Not that either are bad, I just got too used to the Nexus.)
 
Why does everyone keep banging on about the 800mhz processor? We've already seen that the G2 benchmarks higher than the N1.

As for the hotspot capability, I've found it useful on occasions with the N1 so it is definitely a consideration.

I'm sure it won't be long before there's a "stock" CMmod ROM with tethering though.
 
im considering buying a tablet by the end of year.. and theres no way i will get and extra line or data plan to my contract.. so hotspot tethering is a very important
 
Stopped by the T-Mobile store today to check out the G2. I was really impressed with the responsiveness of the screen and controls. The keyboard was really really nice, I know some people don't like physical keyboards but for me I can see it coming in handy while writing a long email. I think I might pick one up in a few weeks to have along with the N1, can't beat the updates and hotspot capability of the N1. You know for my wife to use...

Not many improvements over the N1 but it is differential a really nice phone. Hopefully XDA will be able to figure out the temporary root issues. I have faith.
 
I think anyone who buys a G2 is doing the Android OS a disservice. The included root chip from HTC and T-mobile completely goes against the Android vision of openness.

Shame on anyone who buys this handset knowing that it cripples user innovation. If I buy a phone then I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with it. The G2 is NOT what Android was meant to be and is disgrace from HTC and T-mobile.

I don't like it when carriers lock down features of certain phones but Im actually happy they did it with the g2. This means that the n1 community will remain strong and not have weak defectors leaving their n1's and this forum ;)

Hopefully they start doing this with all of their phones so no one leaves the n1 :)

Looks like I will go do it a disservice then because your opinion means nothing to me, just like I am sure mine does do you. People can buy what they want, I have faith that XDA will be able to bypass this problem in the future. They seem to think so at least. Looks like you will be buying Samsung phones for now on.

Plus it is for my wife, she doesn't need to have a rooted phone.

Google/HTC is a business and they have to do what makes business sense. If its put a lock on a high volume phone in the long run it may be a better model. Andriod overall is still open and there are still dev phones.

My N1 shoots 720p with Enom's ROM using the nicer HTC camera interface. Now stock doesn't yet but there are good reasons for that. It typically takes an increased write speed in the Rom itself and a high speed SD card to reach the desired frame rate. The N1 is more than capable of doing so and it's only a matter of time before Google implements it, probably with gingerbread.
