Win XP USB Driver install failure(s)

Hello!

I have a brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy S7 that I would like to use with my Windows XP SP3 PC. I want to connect by USB and be able to transfer files back & forth. I have an SD card installed and mounted.

I have Developer Options, USB Debugger turned on. I have tried to install Samsung USB driver 1.5.59, 1.5.45, and Driver For Mobile Phones, and Intel Android driver. All have failed to install completely.

The Intel driver got the farthest, and if I connect my S7 and look in Windows Explorer, I can see the S7 directory structure, but no files. And no way to access them. And only the internal memory locations show up.

I have MTP transfer mode selected. What I want to do is to transfer web pages, downloaded files, pictures, or programs from the S7 to the PC. And occasionally transfer a picture or MP3 file from the PC to the phone.

Is there a specific driver that allows Win XP to connect to the S7??? Or is there some switch or selection in the S7 that I need to enable???

I upgraded from a Blackberry Tour 9630 and had no problems connecting that with my Win XP PC and transferring files back & forth.

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for your reply!

As mentioned in first post, this driver failed to install. I took several screenshots of the error message, two attached.

Until I can get this problem solved, I am saving to my S7 SD card, unmounting, taking card out and placing it in my Blackberry, then attaching the BB to my PC with a USB cable and transferring the files. Then returning the SD card to my S7.

Advanced sneakernet. :)

Extremely clumsy, but my PC does not have that ss_conn_service file, and I haven't found it on the net. :(

My install of Win XP SP3 does not have that file, according to Search. Neither does the PC next to this, running Win XP SP3 as well. :(

I forgot to mention that whenever I plug the S7 into the PC via USB, I get the "New Hardware Found Wizard", followed by an error box saying that Windows does not recognize this scanner or camera...

Check if there is a version of Smart Switch for XP. If there isn't, I don't think you can make it work. I mean official XP support from Windows has been discontinued like 2 years ago. Compatible drivers may just have not been made because of this.

XP is not officially supported anymore so don't expect compatible drivers to be easy to find.

I tried to plug my sony walkman into my computer but couldn't find drivers for that as well.

Since you guys are having so much fun, here's another...I plug my old PC speakers into the headphone jack on my RCA 35" LED-LCD HDTV so I can get cheap surround sound...The SoundBlaster drivers work just fine... :D

I checked the Smart-Switch page, they say that Win XP is supported. I went to the library yesterday and downloaded it (free broadband; no broadband here). The page says Windows Media Player 11 or up is also required. I missed that; I'll try to get it today. ;)

I believe WMP11 installs the required MTP drivers, that XP usually lacks. When XP came out in 2001, there was no MTP then.
