Winamp for Android (beta)

Has anyone else experienced this after installing Winamp? When I unplug the headphones, Winamp automatically starts and begins playing music. This lasts for about 20 to 30 seconds and then quits just as suddenly as it starts. I narrowed it down to Winamp and the phenomenon stopped after it was uninstalled. Strange.

I am an avid desktop Winamp user and have been for over 10 years. For a beta, this is a GREAT start. I posted some suggestions over in the Winamp forums for them and I will also post them here:

App currently supports linking to Desktop Winamp via Wi-Fi....but ONLY for sync/transfers. Add more robust functions with this linking ability. The sky is the limit here. For example:

1. Use Android device as remote control for Winamp Desktop controls. For example, do things like this app does:
aWinampRemote - Android app on AppBrain

2. Ability to transfer current live playback of song/playlist to and from Android device. Meaning, a currently playing song on Android phone can be paused and playback be sent to Desktop Winamp to continue where the Android phone left off. Vice Versa supported as well. This would create seamless, uninterrupted playback for those transitioning in listening environments (Transition from Android playback in Car to entering home listening).

3. Expand the linking capabilities to more than Wi-Fi. Make it possible to connect Android Winamp App to Desktop Winamp over IP as well. This way access is NOT limited to location.

Only thing I don't like about this app is actually more of a Winamp (PC) thing than the Android player.

I have all of my music tagged, artwork embedded. When I use Winamp to sync music (USB) it's not transferring the artwork with the MP3. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm really excited that I can finally put music on my Evo without plugging it in. I know it seems lazy, but I just love innovative technology.

I couldn't get it to delete some of the older stuff, but I haven't spent too much time messing with it yet. I put some new albums that I just got on there and it's pretty quick too!

Anybody else give this a try yet? You need the Winamp app and the new Winamp desktop beta.

Yeah it didn't keep all of mine either, and I put lots of hours of hard work into that!

It is only Beta......
Listening to User input is one of the things Winamp developers excel at. I mean it. I've been using Winamp on my PC for over 10 years now and they really do listen to their users as long as you TELL THEM. This means....yes....go over to the winamp forum and speak up. There is already a whole active forum setup for Android Winamp. The Mods have even created a google doc form where users can rate priority of future features and fixes. Link below:

I'm loving this app. I was having the freezing/crashing problem that many other Droid X users encountered with the stock player after the 2.2 update, but there's no issues at all with Winamp. Everything is smooth and snappy and looks great. I'm sure it will only get better in the future.

So everything seems really great with app... it's a little touchy and feels slightly buggy, but for the most part I think it will turn out to be a really solid product.

What I want this to do is EXACTLY what I want it to do.

1) I have a lot of mixes on my computer, so I have a lot of playlists with a lot of different albums and artists. So I want to transfer playlists that I've made on the PC to my droid. So far it hasn't done that. It's taken the songs in the playlist, but hasn't made a playlist on my phone.

2) It moves music folders into the root of my sd card, when I would like the folders to be in a music folder, or wherever I want.

EDIT: #2 I found the answer to, so it's no longer an issue :D

3) the lock screen is a little clunky, but that's ok.

I have a droid x. Anybody else dealing with these issues? I spent a lot of time transferring all my music to Winamp playlists and I haven't really been satisfied with how it works.

Thanks! :D

I already posted the few problems in their forum :)

I did the survey just now though, thank you!

GREAT! Honestly, the best way to get changes made is to talk to the developers on their terms and their ways....ie, the survey and Winamp forums. I see real potential in this App for all those Winamp users out there.

I like the Winamp app and widget.

Three issues to consider:
1) I like being able to access the controls from the lock screen but it's a cumbersome process to get to the home page if all you want to do is unlock your phone.

2) I listen to a lot of live shows and I've noticed a very short (i.e. milliseconds) pause between songs that sort of run together. Most other players just keep playing the songs consecutively and there isn't any pause but on Winamp there is.

3) When I get a notification of a text message or email the song stops playing completely while the notification sound goes off only to resume right after. I've had other players just keep playing (maybe softer) while the notification sound is activated but on Winamp the song physically stops playing.

I'm having the same problem with playlists. I was able to create a playlist on the desktop and then "send it" to the Android. It transfered all the songs, but the playlist didn't appear on the android. So I created a playlist with the same name on the Android and transfered again, no luck. Now I went to delete the playlist I created on the Android, but can't figure out how to delete playlists.

I'd be happy with just separate folders for the music. I have several differnent genres that don't mix well together. I also have too much music to shuffle through.

I have recently been having issues with this also, when listening to Pandora, anytime the headphone jack is bumped, winamp starts playing the last song I played on it. I love Winamp on the pc, but this is getting frustrating.

Yeah I'd like to start doing playlists on Winamp also, but I make really big playlists and don't wanna waste my time until they're going to sync to my phone and my mp3 player.

Winamp was the llama's @ss back in the day! That app was single handedly responsible for starting my addiction to skinning. Then the community fell apart and all the good, original skinners moved on, and Stardock took the fun out of it by making skinning so corporate and for profit.

Anyway, does this app allow skinning?

All android apps/widgets support skinning, in a way. Like this transparent 'skinned' version of the weather channel widget.

You just have to unpack the apk and replace background images. It's not as hard as you may think.
