Searched for an answer, can't find one, so here goes.....

I'm fairly new to the Droid fold, though not smart phones. Hated the music player that came with my DX, so based on a lot of recommendations on this forum, I downloaded Winamp. Like it so far, EXCEPT that I can't get Winamp on my PC to recognize my DX. Winamp on my PC is version 5.061, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to recognize my DX. I've rebooted my PC as well as my DX, as well as re-installing in on my PC, all to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

try uninstalling winamp from both the phone and the comp and start from scratch.
are you trying to transfer music using winamp wired, or wireless?
i just set up winamp on my comp yesterday and through my local wifi i was abl eto transfer over 500 songs without any issues.

The latest version is actually 5.6 so unless you have a typo you have too old a version on your computer.

First possible issue. second, when using a usb cable your phone has a few options. there is a notification bar showing connected and when you press it you get the 4 options: mass storage mode, PC mode, Windows media sync and charge only.

I think I use PC mode. I don't remember as I haven't done it in a while, maybe mass storage mode. But each mode will make your computer use a different driver base. (until you use them all, your computer will try to refresh the drivers each time you plug up)

Also make sure you have proper drivers and that your computer will even find your DX.

Thanks guys. I will uninstall it from both places and start again. I am using a USB cable to transfer, and yes, I did typo the version. It's 5.601 on my laptop. My laptop did find my DX originally, but when I hooked it up with Winamp running on the laptop, it recognized it, but as 2 seperate drives (I'm assuming because of the internal memory and the SD card).

I will wipe Winamp from both places and start again.

Winamp is pretty good but here's my dilemma.

I have over 25gb of music, 30-50% of which I dont like. I was given a few packs from friends, from torrents, from parents CDs and I delete songs/artists I dont like every so often (right now from the computer then I try to sync with Droid X after). Every so often I also download music from my phone because I like it (the new stuff aka new music). When it comes time to sync, winamp says there are some songs on my Droid X that are not on my computer and if I should add them to my computer. (So essentially I deleted the songs I hated on my computer but now winamp asks me if I want to add them back - I can choose no but then I lose the songs I downloaded on my phone. How should I manage my music like with a process that works? Winamp doesn't allow me to rate songs yet. Please help.
