Window 8.1 - read this before 'upgrading'

Well, quite - don't think I've upgraded windows on a PC since the 90s when the first thing you did was swap out Win95 for NT. Otherwise, it's just a PITA.

Having said that, if I'd had Vista I'd probably have upgraded to 7

No ISOs will be made available, so each device needs to be updated individually via the Windows Store. So a small business with 20 PCs to upgrade, for example, will have to do them one at a time via the Windows Store

From what I’m seeing, 8.1, while having modest improvements, does not address the shortcomings that created the demand for it in the first place. Next stop is Win9, if Mr. Bill can get a clue. Meanwhile, I am quite content with Win7.

Glad I left Windows... That's just plain garbage if you don't have unlimited bandwidth and have multiple computers to upgrade or you are on a slow connection and have multiple computers to upgrade

For Desktop Users, Windows 8.1 Is Not Worth an Upgrade

But the fact remains that Microsoft has thrown one and only one bone to Desktop lovers like me: the ability to boot directly to that environment instead of having to go through the Start screen first. This is, for Windows veterans, far and away the most important change in Windows 8.1.
