Windows 8 being ported?

Does anyone know if a Dev is trying to port windows 8 to the HP Touchpad?

No, it will not be. Android can be ported because it is open source, including having the source code released for the various versions. Microsoft owns and charges for use of Windows (regardless of the version), so it cannot be legally ported.

I'm somewhat interested in the Surface, but I'm not sure what the advantage of having RT on the TouchPad would be anyway. Other than the curiosity factor, I don't think there's much you can do with RT that can't be done with CM9.

I'm going to be curious to see how Windows 8 tablets do. One issue is going to be their lack of apps in the Windows Store. Another issue is going to be the confusion because some apps are for Windows RT and others are for the "full" version of Windows. This will be made worse because some of versions of the Surface will run the "full" Windows; likely making owners of the Surface that runs RT upset when they can't run apps (such as Office) that their friends do.

+1...

no apps for RT tablets.
People buying the RT thinking it runs windows programs
Learning curve for Win8 not for everyone.

I'm not a fan. I tell everyone to pass on Win8, unless they want a computer with a touch screen.

Do you know if they are still working on linux? Because if they get everything working on there it would be just as good as windows 8, well sort of.

Few people care what's "under the hood". They mainly want the look and feel so that would work.

It doesn't run windows programs, only the 3 that are in the store so can't see what the attraction is. It's like the webOS that came with the HP Touchpad--NO APPS. Trust me, you're better off with Android. :D

With respect to apps, let's not forget that similar comments were made just a few years ago about Android. Yea there are currently very few apps available for Windows tablets but this will likely change in time...
