Help Windows Explorer Thumbnails won't display S3 jpegs - what gives?

I have the identical problem that everyone is having. I'm using a Galaxy S 2. It's a SPH-D710. Software on Sprint's version is not the same as T-Mobile's version so USB utilities doesn't appear.

My desktop computer has Windows 7. In "My Computer" the phone shows up as SPH-D710. I go to DCIM, photos and all my pictures appear as thumbnails. It works perfectly!

I just got a new laptop with Windows 8. My phone also shows up in "My Computer", HOWEVER the pictures are not viewable as thumbnails! Whatever I try, I just can't get the pictures to appear in Windows 8

Logically speaking, I'd say that by using the same phone and same settings produces two different results on two different computers, the only variable is the computer settings or the computer OS. Since some people have this issue with Windows 7 and I don't, I'd look at something in the computer's settings.

Lastly, it might be the different versions of the OS we're using. I use Windows 7 Home Premium. Maybe the basic version of Windows 7 causes this issue? My Windows 8 is the basic version and I should have got Windows 8 Pro, then maybe I wouldn't have this problem?

Just my 2 cents.

Same here. Spent all afternoon searching Windows forums for this problem with no luck. Now I've found this forum, registered, and can't find a way to ask a question but I at least I found this thread and can post a "me too" on this topic of not seeing thumbnails when connecting the phone to the pc!

I have been having this problem since day one! Echo the same everyone else is saying.

Went to a Sprint store today as I was in the mall and explained the problem to the "tech" guy. He never heard of the problem. What??

So he takes my S3 and plugs it into their computer and gee wiz.. ICONS.

He then said it was a computer problem. Told him NO way as I get the same on 3 different W7 and a XP computer.

He then said it was a, ready for this... a security feature as you may not want people viewing you photos when you view them. I just about flipped and my wife was getting mad at me. So just left.

What we as owners of these JB phones need to do is call and email Samsung with this know unpopular mess.

Does anyone have a good email address?? Not a support address. Need one higher up the ladder at the corporate level.

Maybe a snail mail address and bombard them with tons of mail.

Can't believe they pulled this c r a p.

Same problem. Wrote the following to Samsung Tech support and am waiting for a reply

"When I connect my Note 2 via USB cable to my pc, and open up my pictures folders in windows, I can only see the images as icon tiles, and cannot see actual thumbnails of the images themselves.

I believe this is an issue that has appeared on many forums, but no ready solution seems available.

I do not like using Kies as it is slow, and besides, the whole point of getting an Android phone as opposed to an Apple one is that I want to be able to assess the content on the phone in my own way, without being restricted.

Being able to view thumbnails is very important - if i take 50 photos, for example, I want to be able to see which one I want to transfer to my pc (whether by copying or cutting), and which ones to keep on the phone. Not being able to see the thumbnail images makes this a much more time consuming task.

Can you please advise on how I can start being able to see thumbnail images in windows?"

i faced the same problem with my galaxy camera
although i dont have a technical solution i have now started importing pictures from picassa
works like a charm
good luck

Hello all,

I was browsing for help with this topic, but I don't have a Galaxy S3. I have an HTC Droid DNA, but I was having the exact same issue.

As others have said, this is an issue with your device not being shown as mass storage.

However, I found a solution that worked, and has nothing to do with the phone's storage mode.

I'm running Windows 7 pro, and all I had to do was go to the windows control panel:

Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View, "Always show icons. never thumbnails" (if that is checked, which it was in my case... UNCHECK IT). Windows automatically rescanned my folder and the JPG previews appeared like magic!

Hope this helps.
