Windows Phone Challenge?...Anybody tried and won

Well, first I need to find someone with a Windows phone...
Second, it's been proven (from that blogger) that there are ways to get to certain functions/apps just as fast or faster than WP7. Disable the lockscreen or put your camera function right there like ICS/Sense/ROMs, have an app right on your homescreen to perform the said function (like Yelp, Maps etc). It's fun to see the marketing, and I'm sure it'll appeal to those not in the know.
For me, if something is important or I need it quickly, I'll put it on the lockscreen (ICS ROMs allow up to 8, or you can use WidgetLocker), or I have the app right on the homescreen. Either way, I've no interest in trying out WP7 and don't care if it can upload a photo to Twitter a few seconds faster than my Nexus. My life isn't that trivial.

I think it is great marketing campaign, but can't imagine being so upset that another phone was able to do something .3 seconds faster than mine that I'd be willing to switch.

I also doubt that there are going to be a bunch of average people beating some guy that spends his entire day doing the exact same actions on a phone over and over again. If I did that with my phone all day then I'm sure I probably win too.

It really does look like the challenger is picking tasks that have been either optimized or he's got a lot of practice with. The way the test should work is to get three customers together ... on with Windows Phone 7, one with ICS and one who decides what the task will be. That would level the playing field. The way it's setup now it's like asking your average commuter to race Danica Patrick around the track.

The only one to me that would be something I can see someone trying to do fast is look up a restaurant or maybe post a picture to Facebook. It does look like they are picking tasks based on the phone though. I can't see them trying to outdo a Nexus with taking a picture or surfing the web. I also noticed the fact that the guy is using Wifi, which is probably a much faster network than anything anyone else is using on their phone. If they don't allow the other people to connect to the exact same network then they have an unfair advantage when looking up something on the web.

I remember these ads from a while back and I was able to beat all of them (not including the Xbox live one) with my Galaxy S.

I would go so far as to say that all consumer comparison tests are rigged in some way, even if it's just repeating the test until you achieve favorable results.

But the prize is a laptop, if you beat the Windows phone...LOL...just sayin'. I have no interest in trusting Microsoft ever again (suffered with Windows Mobile and all the hours invested into customizing, that is 10X's quicker and more efficient with Android), but that Hunger Games laptop is pretty appealing.

No question about it. If it was Google or Apple doing this contest I would expect them to rig it in favor of their device as well.

I'm fully convinced it's rigged, especially after seeing that blogger's experience where the Microsoft employees said he lost, "just because."....LOL.

There is a thread on slickdeals about people trading in 4 year old featurephones for new WinPhone for free at Microsoft Store. People trading in old HTC eris and droids.

I will probably do that as well. You go and do the contest and "lose" on purpose and trade your old beater in for a flashy new phone. People buying $40 craigslists phone and getting new HTC titans.

I have a low-end LG Windows Phone 7.5 mango (we use for testing) and I was surprised at how much more fluid, faster it was compared to my Galaxy Nexus.

Seriously, I am not joking. The single core 800 mhz or whatever is so optimized in software, everything was faster. No lag whatsoever.
I can also clearly where Google ripped off elements of Windows Phone 7 UI in Ice Cream Sandwich. E.G the menu icons, placement. The use of serif fonts and minimal icongraphy.

If only Windows 7 phone came with 720p display. I'd be all over that.

Yeah, I was considering trying it with my Samsung Instinct that I have in the box, just to get a Windows 7 phone replacement. In the contest rules, there's no contract w/ the replacement phone. Only thing is, it ends Thursday and I can't leave work to try it out.

To me there's more to a phone than just speed. If it doesn't have the apps I need or do the things I need to do, it's useless to me no matter how fast it is. I've not had a WP7 phone so I can't say that either of those things are true for me but it would take more than speed to convince me to switch.

so.. you can go to best buy and do it? or... I have not seen a Windows Phone store..

I am in Dallas Ft Worth area.

Bummer, no Microsoft Store in my area either.

Yeah, that's what many people have been saying on the internet. I've seen some people making 4 hour drives to the closest one, just to do this (not worth it, IMO).

Nontheless, I don't know what's worse though. You guys not having one in your area, or my having 1 within 6 miles from me and 2 others within 50 miles!...And I completely missed this deal on the weekend, so weekdays are out of the question for me to make it over there and the promotion ends today. Oh well.

Got one 30 min from me. Maybe I'll trade in an old Instinct for a new WP7 lol.... Would be interesting as a reference device.

Too late. Yesterday was last day. I was planning on going to the one close by my work yesterday, but I read somewhere that the one that's close to me had a 3 hour wait time!...Not worth it for me, otherwise, I would've been rid of my old Instinct for sure (even though I wouldn't have kept the Windows phone either).

I know it has to have an ending, but I do find it rather funny. In my mind I keep seeing as some claim from Microsoft with fine print. "WE HAVE THE GREATEST AND FASTEST MOBILE OS!!!!!!!.......between the hours of 10 to 6 Monday through Friday and 10 to 7 on weekends."
