Windows Vista Basic Product key but no CD

I have an Acer E625 eMachine with a Vista Basic product key underneath.

There is no recovery partition on the hard drive as it was formatted by the owner.

Where can I get an ISO image downloaded so that I can install it and then activate it with the product key underneath the laptop?

Of course, I won't touch anything that isn't legitimate but, at the same time, I'm not prepared to pay MS for something I already own, which is the licence key.

I don't think you can without pirating. I believe that recovery partition was your only hope. That product key was probably only good for what ever oem windows was installed. Not the vanilla windows you'd buy at the store. You could try checking the manufacturer website for a recovery disc.

But I could just be way wrong. Hopefully for you I am.

Hi MacLinDroid, I moved your thread to the Computers & IT forum for more focused help :)

I believe most computer makers have install disks - have you tried requesting an installation disk from Acer/eMachines?

On my old (broken) HP laptop that also had its own licence key, I could install from any CD and it won't even prompt for a key as the firmware does that by default. I hoped that Acer would be working the same way.

Acer wants my SNID when I request support, but their system does not even recognize that when I enter it. It seems that they have closed their support for this old machine.

I only want Windows to run my Huawei phone's desktop manager and neither Wine nor PlayOnLinux manage to get a Windows application running. I have done it so many times on other machines but my Mint installation simply won't do.

Is this the program you're after?

I don't have a Huawei to test but that loaded fine for me under WINE. I'm on Mint 15 64-bit.

I suppose it is - someone mentioned it somewhere on one of my threads.

My Mint 15 Olivia is 32-BIT. How do you get the app to run in Wine, then?

Mac, if you go the downloading route, make should to get an OEM disc image, not a retail disc. The keys are different.

I am not sure of any other legitimate sites to get a legitimate copy of Windows Vista Basic. If Manufacturer does not offer it on their site you could contact them and see if you can order it. They may charge a small fee for the disk.

I never run Window Programs on my system there for never have a use for Wine but I would think that your issue is more of a configuration issue with Wine.

Your computer is 64bit so why are you running a 32bit system on it?
