Root wiping D2 question

I have a Droid 2 and have installed a few roms on it. I do a backup everytime i change roms but never wipe anything. Should i wipe before changing? if so what should i wipe (cache partition or data/factory reset)?

I just installed the Tranquility Black 2.5.4a (after unleashed 2.7) and it shows 2 gallerys so i was thinking this was due to a non wiped system. Thoughts?

Sometimes you don't need to wipe (check ROM instructions from developer) - I typically wipe on EVERY ROM change. I have found that you have less issues overall, as every ROM is different.

If it makes you feel better, I have had some gallery issues too, not related to ROMming.
