Root wiping phone nad backing up with nandroid?

im on sholes 2.0.5 ive done a recent nandroid backup..

my question is say i had a problem i would wipe the device

does the nandroid backup contain all my settings,contacts messages all that the way my home screens are setup?

yes. if you make a nandroid backup, all your contacts, apps, icon placements will be intact. your syncing may be off, but all you'd need to do is go to your phone settings and clear the cache for that particular app.
