Wireless Charging Cover

So, after a user on the Howard Forums asked about the mysterious wireless charging cover for the Commando 4G, I did some research and found out that one actually does exist. I hadn't seen any info on any other forums confirming it's existence, so I thought I'd post some info here to see if anybody has been able to get their hands on it and what their experience with it has been. Judging by the icon on the cover, it shouldbe Qi compatible. Don;t know if it comes with a charging base or if that needs to be sourced seperately.

VZW part number is: VZW811-WLDR

$40 on VZWs site

I posted a photo on the other forum but you can google the part number and get some pix.

Finding it on Verizon's site can be difficult. One user attempted to buy it and was told it was out of stock.

Anyway, any feedback from the community would be appreciated.

First of all wireless charging works very nice on this phone. It is made to use the stock battery that came with the phone. You have to buy the QI charger-Transmitter separately I bought the powerbot Qi charger from amazon for $23.
It charges the battery from 50% to 100% in about 2 to 3 hours and it all so maintains the charging over night. When the battery level drops to 96% it starts charging it again.

In the end I would recommend this to anyone

If I was going out in the middle of no where with no power to recharge, sure the 4800 battery would be my first choice. But for day to day use and the convenience of grab and go the wireless charging option is the best. and it dose not feel like two roll of quarters in your pocket.

space-cat - I didn't know this existed. Just purchased the cover from Verizon and the charger from Amazon. It will come in handy.

Yesterday, I came home to both the verizon charger cover and the powerbot charging pad waiting for me at my front door.
No magic to it. I replaced the charging cover, plugged in the charging pad, got a green light on the pad, set it down and set my commando on top of it. I heard a little beep, the green light turned blue and the phone is charging.

One minor annoyance. There would be periods of time when the pad would beep, my commando would light up for a moment and then go dark again.

All that beeping was annoying so I checked on the Amazon page and one of the reviews showed how to keep it from beeping. Simple enough. Now I have a quiet charger although the screen continues to light up and then off again. Anyone else have that problem?

If you're interested in permanently turning off the charger beep, here's a link. Scroll down and follow the links to his pictures.

Could you take a pic of the inside of the cover? I think mine came with the inductive charger cover, as there are contacts & a rectangle thing on it. I think the sticker said something about this feature, but of course, I threw it away.

The charging cover has an extra 'QI' (Circle with a slash through it) icon on the back below those other five icons molded into the standard cover. If you do a google search on the part number of the charging cover, you can see the difference.

I believe the contacts you're mentioning have to do with NFC.

no problems I've noticed with the screen turning on and off, maintenance charging on mine the red charging light on the phone turns red. So far I really like wireless charging.

So far, I'm still not thrilled, the phone continues to wake itself up after 10 seconds or so with the message, "The screen will be off due to wireless charging". The blue light goes off and then on.
I wrote the company and they sent back a reply, telling me to "please help to remove protective case". No idea what that means and asked them to be more specific. I'm still waiting.

I've turned my cell phone 360 degrees, one degree at a time, trying to get it aligned properly. Makes no difference.

Anybody else with this problem? Maybe I have a defective charger? Or a defective cover?

Take your phone to a Verizon store or other shop that carries the chargers and try a variety of them and see which ones work the best.

I have been looking for a charging solution that did not require me to keep opening the micro-usb port.

I searched Amazon and eBay but for some reason, the best deal I found was on the Verizon site - after I logged in mind you. I just bought the wireless cover ($30 + tax) and the charging dock ($22.50 + tax) and got free over night shipping.

If anyone is still looking...good luck...
