Wireless Tether

When I use this app to tether my laptop my battery drains like 2% a minute and my phone gets extremely hot. Is this the case for everyone else using this app?

Ah, alright thanks. But whew, 2% a minute is such a huge drain. Always gotta put it on the charger when I'm tethering.

The more data that passes through your phone the hotter it gets, my G1 is the same exact way.

Not only are you using your 3g radio, but also using your wifi radio. And you aare mostly sending wifi data, which takes more power than receiving it.

Oh, I see. Is there anyway to tether my phone to itself? So I can use apps like Skype on the go. I tried doing it and my phone detected the wireless tether wifi for a few seconds and then it disappeared.

Rather than start a new thread, I'm adding my (somewhat) related notes here.

I'm using KaosFroyo 37 on my rooted Eris, which doesn't support builtin wireless tethering, so I downloaded Wireless Tether (for rooted phones) from the market. I'd played around with it a few weeks ago and everything seemed OK. Then yesterday I played with it a bit more (could connect to the internet fine with encryption turned off, but not with encryption enabled). Then I turned off the tethering and went back to doing other stuff.

This morning I found that I couldn't turn my phone's Bluetooth on. I rebooted the phone and still the Bluetooth wouldn't turn on. So I uninstalled wireless tether, and Bluetooth still didn't work, but Bluetooth now works fine after an additional reboot.

Just a data point in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation.

I haz a galaxy s phone now, I have yet to test out tethering with it for a long period of time though but I may end up doing it next week if I have to for when I go get my copy of the next wow expansion. Still debating on wether or not I want to take my laptop with me when I go get it lol.

I rotate and use PDAnet for usb tethering if I am doing things for long periods. I find WT to cut out after about 30-40 minutes and always needs to be restarted. I have used all the versions from 9 to 13 and had this problem.
