I decided to root my Hero by using www.unrevoked.com/m/. Unrevoked is a simple way to root your phone, if you have no intentions of removing any of the Sprint loaded software. I then install android wifi tether at android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code . My Hero is currently updated 2.1. I have use my Hero as a wireless modem for my Gateway laptop.
