Help With Roaming disabled 'R' icon still showing

As above.

I still have the 'R' displayed in between the Wi-Fi & received signal strength icons.

Maybe I'm getting confused and with roaming disabled this 'R' means 'Received' signal strength?

Can someone please enlighten me.

Thanks.

David

Whether you're roaming or not and whether the R shows can be different things, depending on the carrier.

To make up an example (I don't have access to all the contracts between all the carriers, of course), if you're on AT&T, and using a Cellular One tower, and AT&T considers Cellular One to be its "fill-in" for that area, you're not roaming - as far as turning roaming off is concerned. But since the tower ID is different than your SIM, the R indicator comes on. (Roaming is an old concept anyway. We used to pay about $5/day to roam. [If you made one 5 second call on a roaming partner's tower, it cost you $5.] These days, if the phone works, and you're not near a national border [Canada or Mexico for the US], there's no charge, and it makes no difference if you're "roaming" or not.)
