Help WM8650 Nightmare

Hi, I just bought and Android tablet on eBay and it worked fine for about a week, now, I can't access AppMarket.

My Android Tablet is:

Model WonderMedia WM8650
Android Version 2.2
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-default
Build Number

I have the same issue, and I bought this tablet second hand, which makes matters even worse. I have been exploring installing a new OS on it which seems to be helpful, but I cant determine which one to use....which is driving me crazy. Let me know if you figure anything out. Thanks

I believe the wallpaper switching is related to the weather app that comes pre-installed on the factory firmware. It changes the wallpaper depending on what the weather is like on the location it is set to! If you install the uberoid ROM as recommended by tannim, this will get rid of this 'useful' feature :)

HcH'z TechKnow [www.HcH.net.tc] - Login install this to replace your factory firmware. It'll make your tablet better and give you real google market instead of the wonder media chinese crap.
Thank you! Please tell me how to download to an Android tablet. It's my first unit and that's been half my problem all along with an off-brand product on top of everything else. Do I connect via USB or get on the browser on the tablet and try to get to the website and download from there? (It may be too flaky for that even). Thank you!!!!!

If you register for the site so you can see the post, scroll down there are some FAQ. I've cut and pasted number 1 here. Bits in italics are mine:

FAQ#1: HowTo install the ROM:
You download the ROM on a PC.You will also need a freshly formatted SD card - format as FAT32
1. Extract archive to SD CARD (so a directory SD:\FirmwareInstall is present and the file wmt_scriptcmd in the sd root)
Uberoid comes in zipped folder. You need to unzip it so the files can be used. If I remember correctly, Uberoid uses 7-Zip. Windows doesn't unzip this by default - you will need to download 7-Zip from the internet - it is free. You need to put the contents of the unzipped file onto the SD card. Don't create any additional folders - just put what is in the file onto the formatted SD card.
2. Try to identify your tablet model (M009s/M003s/M012s/etc.)
3. Run CHANGER.BAT from your SD root and see what models there are
4. Put in the number of your model and press <enter>
5. Turn off your tablet
6. Insert SD
7. Turn on your tablet
8. Follow instruction
9. Enjoy a better table

 My wm6850 ceased to function altogether. Just will not start up. It's nice and flat, I may try skimming it across the local pond; I'll get more use and more enjoyment out of it that way.
