Help Wonky Keyboard?!

I recently bought my Motorola Triumph through eBay about a week ago. Just got it two days ago. I've really enjoyed it quite a lot but am having a major issue. I bought the phone rooted and successfully unrooted it after hours of failed attempts.

However, the keyboard on my phone is completely wack. I can barely use it. I'm sure part of the problem is because I'm new to the phone. But, the auto correct does not work. It will not capitalize my I's or add apostrophe's when needed in contractions. I am having issues with the cursor moving around, on it's own, to completely different places in my texts. Some keys are non responsive. Especially the backspace key, which is extremely frustrating since I make a million typos (thanks to fail auto correct) and since the cursor is so spastic. The send key will randomly press. By itself. But it won't send the message. It will just remove my cursor, so I have to press the text space again to finish typing.

Is there any way I can fix this? Would re-rooting the phone possibly repair it? I didn't really want to re-root it but if that would repair this issue then I definitely will. I use my phone primarily as a texting device but the keyboard is making this very difficult for me to do.

THe Swiftkey keyboard has been a good one for me. X2 on removing the stock screen saver, it is a very thick piece of plastic. I replaced it with a Zagg screen saver.

Yep- download a different keyboard...if you want a good free one, just use the "Gingerbread Keyboard", basically what the name says. IF you don't mind ponying up a little dough, Swiftkey 3 is what I use too- great keyboard!

Yes. I tried swiftkey and a couple other keyboards from the google play store. None of them work well for me. They do have autocorrect but they are mostly still quite unresponsive when I press things. My lock screen keypad is also wonky.

I didn't have a screen protector until yesterday. Bought a new one. It doesn't seem to be making it any more difficult than it already is to type lol.

Edit: I just rooted to CM7 TG and the keyboard is perfect. No more unresponsiveness yay!

I'll join the "factory screen protector" chorus, since I had a similar problem when I first got my Triumph, that did trace back to that thick chunk of plastic.

I haven't tried Swiftkey, since Smart Keyboard suits me, and I don't like to change apps TOO frequently. If something works for me, I'm inclined to stick with it (which is fortunate for my husband ;) ).

You should try SwiftKey out if you get the chance, I've been using it for a couple of years now and wholeheartedly recommend it. Very responsive and learns your typing style and vocabulary quite well.
