Help Won't download attachments

Ever since upgrading to ICS my phone won't show pictures or allow me to download them or open any attachment. If i click on the attachment it takes me to a screen with a black and green moving bar but it doesn't download. If i click download all, i get a download progress bar that never moves. I've looked for security settings and options to Change in my gmail settings but haven't found anything. Any ideas? Oh and by the way, i now have a phone that won't shut down either. It doesn't matter if i choose restart or shut down, the phone will restart. So far, I'm not all that impressed with ICS. Seems to be lots of little bugs. Many more than i have mentioned so far... For example, all of a sudden my Swype has decided to quit capitalizing i. Worked ok this morning. This is something I've noticed with ics it seems problems crop up and then it fixes itself. Damn strange.

Did you factory reset before upgrading. It sounds to me like a factory reset would be your best option.

I didn't do a factory reset. I didn't see that it was required or even suggested on the instructions for the upgrade. I guess i will do the reset it i can't get these problems straightened out....

Everything. I hate how factory reset this, factory reset for that. I wish samsung would just get it right and us not have to do this.

Actually, it's always good practice to format and do a clean install. Regardless of the OS, this is always suggested. Android is new to me, but I've upgraded mobile and desktop OSes to know that a clean install always works best. It's not a new concept. An OS is much more complicated in upgrading and installing over a preexisting one. It is the core of what runs everything on the device. It's not as basic or simple as a software program. Even some software programs suggest uninstalling a previous version before upgrading. Again, it's not something new.
