Root WooHoooo...I am new to flashing roms!

preembargo

Newbie
Oh....I can see that I've started down the road to addiction....and I'm really quite alright with that.

I'd tried to flash P.U.T.U. as my first attempt but could never get past the boot screen on reboot. No worries though, I'd performed a nandroid backup immediately after rooting (well, immediately after getting rid of that damned MyExtraIrritatingSpam app) and flashed Admiral Beast instead.

Now I'm trying to exercise a modicum of self-control and letting myself get to know the Admiral for a few days before I try something new. Any suggestions for my next ROM?

Well what do you use your phone for mostly?

Surfing the interweb and I rely on gps alot. I also use it for storing recipes for work (I'm a chef), inventories, and financial reports (executive chef). But mostly, I like bright shiny things.

edit to add:
I'd like to find a bittorent app if one exists.

Oh, and I use it for making phone calls, too. :p

Well speaking of personal opinion you can try this :http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/587926-rom-cwm5-0-28-oc-kernel-oa-2-3-stable-ext4-cricket-mpcs-updated-07-21-12-a.html#post4714171

It's a pretty fast rom and it's what i'm using now. You can just choose to remove whatever apps you don't need to have more space for other things. Most roms for the admire don't really mess with gps so it's not gonna be worse or better although with some roms 3g speeds are better.

You could also try this : http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/554987-rom-admired-monster-5-3-now-stock-kernel-build-phones-dont-take-oc-kernel-well.html . In a way it's an updated admiral monster. I've flashed it before and I loved it. But one thing if you do to decided to flash this rom just know that 5.3 has beats that makes your phone sounds much louder so if you don't like it you can install 5.2. But in terms of what rom you should flash next it's all about what you like and what rom you think can offer you the most. Look at what each rom has to offer and if you like it flash it and try out. Just always remember to wipe data, system, cache, and dalvik cache as to not run into any problems.

Monster 5.2 has a bad force close bug so I wouldnt recommend it. But monster 5.3 does not have the same problem. If you need to get rid of beats spz0 has made made a flash able zip to remove it.

Thanks Kage Beast, I'll check those out.....but now for the first of MANY noob questions. I understand 'stock kernel' means, well, stock but what does 'OC' kernel mean?

Oh, and as for beats, I'm old, louder is better.

Yeah what Bo said lol. He knows way more than me. And OC kernel means overclocked kernel. What I know is that the admire is naturally overclocked to 800MHz but there's an OC kernel that increases the MZh to 900

Keep in mind that my beats removal zip is only for removing kidallstar95's beats zip.

Im in the process of making a removal zip for the google play beats installer apk, but its pretty time consuming to code the removal script since there are so many files to remove. I've got a few other projects Im working on atm, so that one is pretty back shelf.
BUT I _should_ get it out there in the next month or so.

I can also recommend my OA 2.3 ROM. I have GPS accuracy narrowed down to 1Meter or less over 50% of the time (without the need for improving accuracy)
Might be something you want to look into.

Thanks Spz0,I really like the 1 meter gps accuracy and I'd like to try the hotspot feature.

Your download links to CWM5.0.28 zip, I tried to use Odin but it only looks for .tar not .zip (remember I've only done this once so if there's a way to select the zip I'm not sure) can I use the CWM5.0.27 that I already have installed?

Btw spz0s Beats remover will work with monster5

Groovy. I did not know that. :)

Yes, the 5.0.2.8 zip is meant to be flashed with 5.0.2.7. Think of it as a " recovery upgrade zip"
