Help work in the us

I am inbetween the desire HD and Galaxy S. What is going to tip me to one or the other now is whether I buy the phone if it will work both in europe and the US. I live in Russia now but spend lots of time in the US when I am home (also not sure when I will return to the US). From my understanding the galaxy s will work both here in Europe and in the US on a 3g network?
