Worth Changing from LG Esteem?

ktchong

Android Enthusiast
1. Is it worth spending $400 to change from LG Esteem to Samsung Galaxy S3? Will I notice an improvement in speed and performance if I change my phone?

2. Will I get to keep my old $50 unlimited-4G, everything-included plan (which is no longer available) if I change my phone?

3. Should I be aware of any potential problems with Samsung Galaxy S3?

4. Is MetroPCS rumored to release a new better phone anytime soon?

Thanks.

Details:

1. I've been using LG Esteem for about a year now. Honestly I have been more and more unhappy with LG Esteem because it is so slow and suck at playing games even when the phone is rooted and stripped down the the minimum. I wonder if it's worth spending $400 to change to Samsung Galaxy S3? Will I see a noticeable improvement in phone speed and performance if I switch from LG Esteem to Samsung Galaxy S3?

2. I have an old legacy $50 plan. It includes unlimited 4G and a bundle of features for no extra fee free (like Metro Navigator and 411 assistance.) The newer, current $50 plan caps 4G to 2.5 GB, and does not include extra features like Metro Navigator or 411 for free, (i.e., each additional feature costs extra $1 to $2 per month.) Will I be able to keep my old plan if I move to the new phone?

3. I want to know if Samsung Galaxy S3 has any known potential issues. For examples: LG Esteem had a problem with rebooting itself last year and another problem with booting into the test mode this year, and LG has never released an Android version update for Esteem as promised. I wonder if Samsung Galaxy S3 already has similar headaches.

4. Finally, I want to know if MetroPCS will release another better phone anytime soon. Let say MetroPCS is rumored to release Samsung Note 2 next year in March. Then I'd rather just wait for that phone. I bought LG Esteem in October of 2011. Then MetroPCS released LG Connect in March 2012. That turned out to be a bummer for me, because LG Connect would have been a better phone for me as a gamer.

Absolutely dude. Most of us on here came from the Esteem. This baby wipes the floor with the Esteem. The only issue I've had is after rooting & running bakedbean ROM, sometimes my screen won't come on when I hit the power button. Other than that, the price is well worth it. The devs & support here seem to be a lil better than we have on the Esteem, not that I'm bashing the Esteem. I still think it's a great phone. With the S3 you get what you pay for.

Like you I also had the Esteem and kept asking myself, "is the GS3 that much better than my Esteem" The answer is YES! This phone is amazing, I'm rooted and running aokp as my ROM, haven't had any issues at all and my battery life is awesome. Can't answer the question about Metro coming out with a better phone but I can tell you that the plan should not change, I have the $55 unlimited everything plan and it stayed the same. Don't give it a second thought, get the GS3.

Get the s3 is still a beast 6 months later still rocks we have a great community with great devs yes you can keep your plan most of us came from the esteem it was a nice phone a year ago with the s3 you have a solid performer with more better things coming for us

Worth the money on day one for me but I was coming from the indulge. Kept my 18-20 month old grandfathered plan
