Help Would like to get help on Cast Screen from my moto g2.

Can we add a line in build.prop WITHOUT ROOTING.

I have a Moto G2 running on lollipop. For some reason, the cast screen functionality is disabled in this. I would really like to get a work around on this.

I know that we can add persist.debug.wdf.enable=1 in build.prop, it may work.

Now the question is If we can add this line, WITHOUT ROOTING.

Any help will be appreciated and pls do keep in mind that I'm a novice to this whole thing. :)

I know abt Chromecast but was looking at any alternatives!!!

Is it possible to do the screen mirroring using HDMI cable connected to my Phone? If yes, Does anyone knew how to do it?

Don't want to tamper the warranty by rooting for only enabling "Cast Screen" feature!! :(
 
Getting an HDMI signal out requires either an HDMI port or an MHL port (looks like microUSB, uses microUSB form factor, is even confused with microUSB) (an MHL port is a hardware switched circuit that can toggle between a USB connection or an HD signal that can be shaped into HDMI with an adapter).

The Moto G doesn't have either one.

So you can't use HDMI, there are only two casting possibilities common to Android, Miracast and Chromecast, and you can't do Miracast.

And that's why I said, your only alternative is Chromecast.

Chromecast doesn't require root to screen cast.

That changed a LONG time ago.

It's built-in if you have 4.4.2 or higher. And I'm rather sure that you do.

Do you know anything about Flashing?

Came to know from an android forum that we can edit the build.prop by flashing without rooting.. but they haven't mentioned how to do the same?

As I said earlier, I'm just a novice and little curiouso_O to know what it really meant by flashing and How can I do it in my Moto G2. Would really appreciate for a expert opinion.:rolleyes:

I'm going with rooting option then..:(

o_ODo you have any suggestion before I root my device?

o_OIs it possible to unroot the device after rooting?

o_ODoes nandroid backup can restore my previous version if something went wrong(reminding the novice part again :))

o_O Is there any thread or steps that I can follow to root my device?

I know it's a lot of question, but spare me plss...
 
If you change your build.prop it's not going to change anything about screen casting at all.

It's not going to work.

After going on about not wanting to root, what's changed your mind?? I don't get it.

Do you have to screen cast?

Or are you under the impression that's the only way to get video to your TV?
 
If it's the only option(other than chromecast :D), then I shall go with rooting.

I do have to screen cast for a presentation purpose for just 2 min.

I am able to stream video/images with iMediaShare, but the point is to show my mobile screen in TV.

Even if I can show my mobile screen in my lap will suffice, any thing you people can suggest.

Let me go and make the story a trilogy -

Rooting, changing the build.prop, and attempting to Miracast is NOT GOING TO WORK.

You can want it to work.

You can try to make it work.

IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK.

THE MOTO G HARDWARE DOES NOT SUPPORT IT.

build.prop has NOTHING TO DO with why it won't work on your phone.

There - said three times for trilogy.

As you didn't believe the first two times and a supporting article saying the same thing, I don't think that I've helped - but I've tried.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted out! :)
 
In fairness, the link implied the screen cast function (for miracast I assume) could be accessed through root, however results may be slow, glitchy and will not allow you to use Wi-Fi connection at same time.


He does recommend chromecast though (using chromecast apps like YouTube etc...wouldn't be able to directly cast screen on this device)

I was able to mirror my screen WITHOUT ROOTING!!!

MOTO G HARDWARE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS.

Was able to do it with http://en.miui.com/thread-57263-1-1.html

We all are programmers and will find a solution at last!!!
 
No offense taken - if I'd realized that decoupling the hardware with a pc was an option for you, I'd have linked you to that. :p :)

I've tried on a Moto G - it's atrocious if anything. :p

It doesn't work.

That's my opinion. :)

It was a great experience indeed....!! The only sad part is that it took me almost 3days to sort this out but learned a lot of new thing by doing so..

:DLearned to root my device
:DLearned What's MHL
:DLearned to flash
:DLearned different adb commands
:DLearned that there is an option called "Developer Option and USB Debugging"
:DLearned that there is forum called androidforum!!;)

Well that's time well spend ed. Knowledge is power:cool:
 
I don't quite know where this belongs but it belongs someplace as a sticky thread for future reference.

So I chose Android Media.

Staff is free to try a better choice.

Thing is, we've all been so engrossed in the modern way and the proper way on this issue that maybe we've lost sight that's there no school like old school - and many of us have done this and forgotten, lured by the new definition of the problem - when every so often, that's nonsense.

My personal kudos to the OP for a job well done and this excellent wake up call! :)
