Would you buy the Play today?

best Buy has the $50 gift card for upgrading now, and the phone is free with contract or extension- so basically I can walk out now with a free Xperia Play. Would you? Knowing you would be under contract with this phone for two more years.

Obviously I am a bit biased, however it would depend on what you want out of a phone. If you are looking for an Android handset and are fan of gaming, I would say go for it.

Thanks! Would you have any worries about it becoming outdated quickly? I am excited to use it for Onlive as well as android gaming.

I don't see it being outdated any time soon, it has ICS on the way and is constantly having new content made for it. If you decide to pick it up do let us know :)

Will likely pick it up tomorrow, originally had the Galaxy Note on pre-order, but think I will let Best Buy pay me $50 to leave with the Play, rather than give them $300... especially with AT&T throttling people.

Undoubtedly! I would get a Play for every member of my family if I could afford the data plan for each!

I picked up a USED one on Ebay SOLELY for the purpose of gaming. The thing isn't even activated! I rooted it, uninstalled the bloatware and JAMMED the 16GB memory card full of Xperia optimized games. LOVE IT!

Yes & No. First things first. If you love pocket gaming, or retro gaming. For sure. If you feel comfortable rooting your phone. Go for it!

There are ton's of emulators out there, and the XP does a solid job of running those apps. But there are better android phones out there. The screen is also not as bright as some other android devices.

Sony's support for this device has been pretty lackluster. But not unsurprising. Again, if pocket or retro gaming is your thing. You can do a lot worse. I've had a love / hate relationship with this phone.

Trust me, the buzz of running Gran Turismo 2 or some other 13-14 year old psx game wears off after a lil while :p

The version of mame that runs on the device is rather old, and emulation on a lot of games is not perfect. But it is pretty good. I never found a mame emu that could play Alien Vs Predator, or similar capcom titles.

Have you tried Tiger Arcade? I found that this week and it runs AvP, Marvel vs Capcom etc. I've seen videos of it running Street Fighter 3 also, but haven't tried it yet.
