Help Wrong characters on dial pad?

I have a stupid, goofy problem . . . when I have the dial pad open to enter my unlock code, both the number 4 and the number 7 show the letters "GHI". The number 7 is supposed to have "PRQS".

The dialpad works fine, but this is a brand new device and it should be in perfect condition.

Besides getting it replaced, since I plan to root it, are there any other solutions?
