Help Wrong Number Appearing in Texts

So my friend and I were texting when suddenly one of her texts comes in under a different number. Her number is usually something like +1-951-***-****. but now her texts are coming in under +11-951-***-**** so there's an extra 1 in the number making it an 11 digit number instead of 10.

When I try to text her under that number, I get a message immediately back saying it is an invalid number. If I text her regular number, she gets the message but all her responses come back under the supposed invalid number. When she calls, it comes under the correct number though. It is only text messages that are doing this. We both reset our phones and we tried taking out our sim cards and putting them back in but nothing has helped.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and she's using a Galaxy S3.

EDIT: I downloaded a texting app an on that one her texts come in under the proper number. is it just a problem with the default messaging app?

I am seeing the same thing suddenly this morning. 4 different people have texted me this morning 3 are having this happen with their threads....1 of those 3 is halfway across the country. The 4th is local and his texts are functioning normally

It's happening to me too. I have one person coming through an invalid number and another coming through just fine.

Same problem here. S5 Active. Recipient uses iPhone.

That sounds like a carrier problem - could you all post back with which carrier you are using and we will see..

I have the same problem. Also on ATT. Just contacted support and they confirmed it is a network issue in "my" area. I am in Minneapolis/St Paul area

No, they didn't give a resolution time.

However, I turned on Hangouts as my messaging app and that is keeping all the messages in one thread

What's Hangouts?

It's a Google app that is probably already loaded on your android phone.

http://www.google.com/hangouts/

You just open it, go to settings/sms and make it your default sms app

Having same issue and I also have AT&T.

I went into the setting in my stock texting app and clicked on general in there I unchecked show call history and show message history and mine works fine now

I'm having the same problem with one contact started this morning. Galaxy s4 active. Tried getting the go pro app and it didn't work but tried hangouts and its working fine.

Mine started working correctly again sometime this afternoon

I believe it was a network issue though it was that while using the texting app HeyWire, her number came in properly. Anyways, this had happened at night and by morning it was all fixed.
