Dude... ouch. Google, I expected this from Apple and Microsoft... Ah well... I guess Mozilla may take up the reign as the "small good guy" while Google takes on the mantle of "big bad guy."
 
I don't see how this is possible since isn't T-Mobile supposed to cover the remainder of the cost of the phone to Google? So how could they collect an ETF as well?
 
Why are so many people complaining about this?!?! This is how T-Mobile authorized dealers work! Which is what google/phone is, an authorized dealer! They are selling a t-mobile phone with incentive. They don't get their subsidy unless you use the phone for 6 months. Go to any kiosk in any mall in america and they will do the same thing...but as soon as Google decides they need to also recoup their loss from scammers that buy a phone and sell it on ebay they are evil.

Get over it!

For all other phones you don't pay an ETF to both the manufacturer AND the service provider. That's double dipping... and you never double dip the chip; you might as well put your whole mouth into the dipping bowl.
 
Google's not only the manufacturer but the retailer. Retailers can and do charge you in the same manner as gentlefury pointed out. Read the terms at Amazon, Best Buy, Dell Mobility, Wirefly, etc etc etc. Nothing new here. You'll pay an ETF to your carrier and a fee to any of them as well.
 
This is not news. All laid out in the leaked contract agreement.

Consider reading before signing.
 
I thought this was all known for a while anyway? I knew about this an I don't even live in America..
