X-Rays and Phones?

Went to the dentist and had my moth x-rayed. Incredible S was in my pocket.

How safe are cell phones around x-rays/being x-rayed?

or is my phone good?

I don't think that X-rays will cause any issues with electronic devices. The ones at the airport security are used regularly to scan your luggage or carry ons which contain laptops, phones and other electronic devices. The one at the dentists should be an issue either. The focus of the rays are at your head and not at your phone, so I would say the amount of radiation your phone experiences would be smaller than at the airport.
 
I don't believe electronics are adversely affected by xrays. At least not at an exposure that is safe for humans.
 
So long as you were not getting a MRI next, then you're fine. They would tell you to remove anything from your pocket it if was of concern.
 
Yeah, the only thing you have to worry about with X-Rays is film. X-Ray is a band of light outside the human visible range. But being light, it can expose unexposed film. Of course no one uses or sells film anymore so... problem solved!
 
Also, they should have put a lead shield on you! I can't believe they didn't! I am a certified dental assistant, and you should have been shielded!
 
Im a retired LEO. Im in charge of Security for the city.
I have ran one cell phone thru our X-ray machines several hundred times.
Still works... No problems.
Basically the security X-ray machine takes a X-ray/photo of the item, with metals showing up as a darker color. Our machines will pick up very small wires ect. The paperwork for our machines say they are safe for Pacemakers, electronics ect... We have used these machines for almost 5 yrs. with no damage to any electrical component.
Good X-ray machines pick up all materials and will show a photo of the interior. Ex. Ladies purse contents will show everything... :o

hold on. it's not the mouth thing they stick in my mouth to bight down on is it? i wouldn't have thought so, since it's led. but i dunno.

am only wondering because when they took the x-ray, they all left the room, unless that's the normal thing to do.
 
If you are taking x-rays of people regularly your cumulative dose is potentially a lot higher than that of the patient who is having a single x-ray taken. That's why staff will stand back or leave the room, to keep their dose per x-ray minimised, because they are doing it a lot. Doesn't mean the individual exposure is dangerous.

And if the dose was high enough to damage your phone, you would have much bigger worries than that! ;). So no, you and your phone are fine.
