Root X10 rom questions

Im thinking of buying my brother a X10 but i have a few questions to ask first. I currently have a HTC desire so i prefer android phones now.

1. I see that its possible to root the phone but there does not seem to be much ROMS available. Is there any reason for this?

2. The main reason i wanted to root and change ROM was to install A2SD but the X10 has much higher internal memory at 1GB. But can i still install A2SD+?

3. I see that there are vanilla 2.2 Roms but they have a few bugs. So is there a vanilla 2.1 Rom that is stable and everything works?

1. There are plenty of Custom Roms. Stable 2.1, and various versions of 2.2 and 2.3 that are not fully functional (YET).

2. Apps2SD can be installed at 2.2 I believe, on almost any custom ROM.

3. The X10 officially supports 2.1, so you could update it through SEUS to 2.1
(There are plenty of customized versions of 2.1 as well)
