Xbox controller help

Hey guys. I have a few questions about using a 360 controller with the Nexus 7.

- Does it have to be a microsoft controller?

I don't have a wired controller so if I'm going to do this I'll be buying a $20 third party controller. I just wonder if they offer the same compatibility.

- If (when) I eventually buy a receiver to use my wireless controller is this the one I'll need/will work?

Unfortunately I need to have this working by monday so buying a receiver isn't an option at the moment (Can't find them locally, internet is the only way). Depending on how it goes with a wired controller though I'll definitely be looking into buying one.

- Is rooting a good idea?

I know that the controllers work fine without a rooted device but does rooting bring any benefits when it comes to finding games that don't respond ideally? I know that if I want the receiver to work I'll have to root but I'll leave that bridge until I have to cross it.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your response! :)

-As far as I can tell, no. I would say as long as they work on an actual 360, they should probably work.

-The cheap knockoff adapters are sort of makes this one iffy. I know the official one works perfectly. However, I've dealt with a friend's knockoff adapter and getting them to work can be a real PITA (they aren't exactly plug n' play like the official ones are). However, maybe it will work just fine. Linux tends to be pretty good about recognizing devices.

-I haven't really seen where rooting really helps gaming. Maybe except for making proper backups of games saves, etc.

Thank you for your reply. I ended up buying a Microsoft wired controller and using that. For now I'm quite content with the wired controller but I am still thinking of buying a receiver. I think I'll definitely go for an official one as well.
